The Scarlet-W arguably takes better images than any other camera on the market that doesn't say RED on the side, no matter what the price.

Yes the big dogs use the big cameras. Michael Bay uses Weapon Heliums to shoot the important shots on transformers. But he also uses multiple Ravens right along side of them each and every day. Be happy with whatever camera you have or are getting and take comfort that the images you will take with it will be better than most.

but does Michael Bay use Scarlet-W's? lol j/k hehheh

a no interest finance plan? how is this possible? low interest of course.. but none? or do you mean some sort of 0% apr credit card?
No interest would definitely be a long shot, especially with the very generous discount they are giving. Of course, one way they theoretically could pull off "0%" is if they gave the financial institution a flat amount per camera (sort of like how a dealer makes money selling a RED for the exact same price as RED does, RED doesn't quite make as much off each unit). Of course, this would mean additional money out of RED's pocket on top of the huge discount they are already giving, so I'm not holding my breath!

As for 0% interest cards, I've got one that still has plenty of time left on it and signed up for another recently. I don't ever carry a balance, so it's basically a 0% loan, like Elsie N said.

The other factor is that it is said that it's better to shoot higher res at higher compression than lower res at lower compression.

I would love to know what compression you'd have to use at 7k on the E-W to use no more data than you would shooting 5K on the S-W at, say, 8:1.

(although I still can't afford the extra $10k for the E-W, so I'm just torturing myself at this point!)

Using Phil's tools,

E-W
7k 8:1 = 7.30 GB per Min, 27.1 MP, 29.58 image circle.

6K 6:1 = 6.97 GB per Min, 19.42 MP, 25.22 Image Circle

S-W 5k 4:1 = 7.44 GM per Min 13.82 MP, 28.94 Image Circle.

And for me, .. Scarlet-X 6:1 = 3.18 GB per min, 8.85 PM, 25 Image Circle.

I'm going to start with 6k on the E-W since it's basically the same crop I'm shooting now, .
and hope my Mac Pro w 2x d700 graphics cards can keep up.

Yeah, that to me is the only way for this to work as some cards charge interest for the balance while applying any payment to the 0% interest portion. But even using it as a 0% loan balance only, it technically isn't a zero percent loan.

If you have to pay 3% up front, that means that you are paying a quarter percentage point per month on the entire balance for a 12 month time period. If it was a pro-rated of 3% charge for the remaining balance each month it would be much less, so cc companies are technically getting 3% interest on their money per year plus a very high rate on those who are unable to pay off their full amount or continue using said card as a charge card.

Not a bad deal for the CC companies when all said and done.

But it also works for a borrower who has cost-certainty and can determine if he/she can live with the terms.

In my region, banks typically charge between 22-27% per annum!!!

Do they have default rates to support that? Otherwise, sounds like a business ripe for competition (if competition is allowed by the govt.)

Are you referring to the checks that they send in the mail? Those are the only things I've seen that offer 0% but charge an initial 3% fee on the amount charged. The cards I'm talking about are ones that are signed up for and have 15-18 months of 0% interest, and only charge the fee on "balance transfers", not for purchases. So there really is no interest charged. I think they are just hoping for people to spend outside their means and collect late fees and then impose the high interest rates you're mentioning.

I know you can upgrade to Scarlet-W to then get into Epic-W but can you upgrade your Raven if you already taken delivery to Scarlet-W? Meaning send it in and pay the difference?

I'm a little confused here and just trying to make the best decision. It was suggested to put a deposit down for the Woven Carbon Fiber 6K pre 10/11 but I'm curious as to why? Does it guarantee you a 5k accessory credit if you switch to the Weapon Helium? Or is it to lock in the bundle and credit because it is going away after the 11th?

You have to remember that the banks charge about 3% to the merchant (i.e. if you buy something for $100 the banks keep $3 and the seller only gets $97) so they are making money on the front end even if they never get interest on the back end. That's how the traditional American Express cards made ALL of their money (although AMEX now has revolving credit cards as well).

Yes, only referring to these.

I buy with my AMEX card to get the extra warranty they offer and pay off the balance with a transfer from a zero percent interest card. And with the possibility of the Fed raising interest rates, I think that is why we (at least I) am seeing only 12 months offered.

Three percent spread out over 12 months is more revenue positive to the cc companies than when spread out over 18 months.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you can go straight from sending in your RAVEN to upgrade to the Epic W for the same difference between originally buying a RAVEN and paying the difference to get to $20,000 (=more than the $10,000 diff between Scarlet W and Epic W. )

Could you tell me please, if Helium low light compare to Dragon, so Helium has more stops in the shadows, but what is dynamic range of Helium compare to Dragon?

You shouldn't be comparing the two cameras as equal ways to get to the same image. Yes more resolution requires more horsepower. It requires more data and you can push it, if you want, to almost double the data rates as Scarlet-W . Epic-W isn't trying to compete against Scarlet-W, Epic-W exists for those that desire a better image, with more resolution, less sensor smear, and better color. Its sort of like comparing a Porsche against a Ferrari and asking why the Ferrari with almost double the horsepower gets lower gas millage and the insurance costs more.

If people think that Epic-W is a stretch for them, they shouldn't be looking at that option. As many people have stated including ourselves, The Scarlet-W arguably takes better images than any other camera on the market that doesn't say RED on the side, no matter what the price.

the deposit for woven/forged is to get the aks credit and upgrade package contents thats currently offered, since that will likely go away on the 11th. brent confirmed if you have a paid deposit on this package, RED will honor it after the 11th, or you can shift your deposit to a new upgrade package that is announced. obviously, if you switch the upgrade path, you will forfeit the package and its contents that you're moving away from. the reason this was noted, is that it gives you the opportunity to change your mind on the 11th, or stay with the weapon 6K path.

I sense there a need for a chart that answers all this upgrade math. A takes you to Z for this much. etc.. Seems to be about 80% of the posts here lately.

lol.. we need more of this: Brody_B: "I'm gonna be running through the isles throwing red cameras in my cart!!" lmao
