  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

As others have noted, the phrase 8K post causes panic for a lot of producers/post supes. While some entities may still mandate maximum capture rasters at 4KHD, most will accept 4K/UHD ProRes (scaled from an S35-ish FOV) written on the fly in camera. While I, and many of you, will lament the loss of custom "developing" the RAW into an RGB format - most producers will embrace the workflow shortcut of getting directly to ProRes or DNxHR.

For a lot of folks the Scarlet-W will provide amazing bang for the buck, but if getting your camera booked onto lots of productions is part of your plan, then, IMO, the Epic-W is the droid you're looking for.

I love my Scarlet X, my first Red,, was reslly
thinking the S-W I have on order would be the cats meow,,
but now to go to 8k helium!!! wow!

Jarred,, I have been through the normal bunch of cameras since turning
to motion from being a stills guy for 30 years.
They all have their good and bad. But when I got the first frames from
the S-X, an older sensor, I was blown away!
Cant wait to see what Helium will do

Everything from all of us that sent something to him is a small token/pennies in comparison to what you guys have done for us, and frankly, everyone at RED.
 
You guys (and gals) are ridiculous. My office looks a tad creepy with a dozen smiley face emoji floral arrangements... They are watching me.

But, yes, to echo Jarred, in all seriousness, this has been pretty darn cool. And it had made me happy to be able to spread the floral and edible love around others at RED.

Hahah awesome! Pic please :). That arrangement was definitely the most appropriate to pick, considering all of our smiling faces! lol oh and they are reminders on what to do when you catch Jarred leaking info. Heh

This is pretty much where I'm at. One of the most appealing things about the S-W is the frame rate options, so a large part of my decision will be what the crop factor and frame rates are of the E-W. Can't wait to find out!

It's taken me all day to catch up through this thread but I'm glad I did. Jarred and Brent thank you for everything and this amazing community I get to be astounded at month after month. I'm a Rookie in the RED family, this is best thread I've experienced up to this point. Really proud to be a part of this historic thing, even in a small way.

I wonder if there will be later a truckload of BT Scarlet W. Or Scarlet W to Epic W doesn't need a new body?
 
Goodness guys, I wander off to location for a few days and this monster gains ~80pgs!

Someday I'll make my grandchildren take off their [oakley] holo-goggles, sit them down, and dazzle them with tales of how grandpa lived through "the great RED thread of '16"

I think the rest if reduser really must suffer from this thread. Has anyone posted (or read) anywhere else than here for the last few days?
