The Update Thread

Dear Jarred,

I do not expect an answer to this. Looking for a chance. Please with a cherry on top. I know there's a lot of wishful thinking, but that's what we do best besides make pretty pictures. So much to read today...

Realist
1. 30 fps Epic-W
2. 4K Pro-Res

Idealist
1. Sampling S35mm sensor so even at its full size the 8K sensor could produce 4K RAW without cropping in. Being able to do this and take advantage of the higher frame rate would be perfect IMO.
2. HDMI out at 4K please and thank you.

Might have missed it, but has it been confirmed that Epic is 8K? I figured it would be 7K. 8K at say 12 fps would be too much of a tease for EPIC. We're not talking Scarlet here so the frame rate has to be reasonable. 7K at 30 fps would make sense to me. I'm not saying I wouldn't indulge the 8K flavor just not expecting it.

Jarred, if there was only one question I could ask you this year, then I would ask, "Are there as many Helium Weapons built as Epic-Ws?". Inquiring minds need to know if they roll up their ones and zeros will it get them a Weapon Helium or Epic Weapon out of the gate.

Haven't heard anyone beg the question about pulling focus. How hard is it going to be to tell if you're in focus? Our common field monitors barely show HD let alone 4K.

Forgive me if any of my quests already have answers I haven't seen. Looks like October is going to be a big month. I have an OG pasta pass coming and a new camera. What more could a guy wish for?

How many people are going to try to fill their balloons with my camera? Kidding of course, but wonder how many names you guys look at before you decide which one. Is it going to say Helium plated on the side?

At the end of the day, what I really love is that RED is pushing the limits. Thank you so much. I can't wait for more higher res content. RED is bringing it.

Reduser for life,
Collin Martin

really? where is that button? I seem to have missed it.

Its in the menu structure on both the a7sii and the rx10ii. Its only an on off switch. Seems to be about two stops of nd. Nothing scientific, but its there. And not sure if its something they are doing to just knock the light down or an actual nd. Ill look for it and snap a pic and send it to you on FB.

With this "low" of exceptions of resolution and frame rate, I have a feeling 8k FF 60fps, and WS 75 is going to be in. (just higher compression numbers). Cause exactly guys, this is the EPIC camera. Full fledged camera. Weapon just takes Epic, and makes it better, in terms of compression, and weight.

Actually, Jared already mentioned 40fps was way too high an estimate on Epic-W. Helium does 60 and has much more bandwidth.

I think you are mistaken my friend... I have personally taken that camera apart piece by piece and there is no Internal ND filters.

I posted a pic. That was on my rx10ii. But im almost 100 percent positive its in the same place on my a7sii as well.

BTW, I love this whole thread. It really is like a movie. I cannot (obviously I can and will) wait until Oct 11! So stoked about being able to move up to the Weapon body.

To be fair, he said 'not a chance' that it's max framerate was 40fps. I hope there's a chance at 30...

I was hoping he meant there is no chance for a 40 fps but there is a chance for 48 fps. '-)
