  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Epic-W/Helium 8K

What we know about upgrading.


Scarlet-w people that already got their scarlet-w and people still in line can upgrade towards 8K for about $10.000. We don't know the latest order date to be able to do this.

Scarlet MX and Scarlet Dragon is still in the dark.
 
Amazing news lately... This thread is pinned to my desktop and has become a daily thing. ;)
Looks like EPIC-W could be the option i would jump in for.

And yes, it is easy to see why. If we stood on the top of a mountain giving away free bags of gold there would still be people that complained that they needed to climb the mountain to get it.

What is the elevation of the top of said mountain? Will the Whaaammbulance be able to get there or is it only accessible by airlift?
The whiners need to know.
 
It's nice to see people so excited but let's be real here. There are still a mountain of Scarlet-W orders to go through no matter how the timestamp system works for the Epic-W. Epic-W could help on the Scarlet-W lines but it also might very well not considering how many people who are not waiting for a Scarlet-W are going to want to jump on board the Epic-W. None of this really seems like it's going to play out in a way where the bulk of Scarlet-W only orders get their cameras in 2017.

That depends on how the manufacturing process for helium works. If it's an easier to produce sensor than a dragon sensor it will be going quicker.
Also maybe they have already build 50/100 Epic-W's good to go.
 
So think it would be possible to see some Helium samples with the new color science before the 11th? Preferably to see how it handles the highlights?

I have a feeling this will remain a benefit of only the carbon weapons. It takes a lot of power to make a 4k prores, and doing it on the side of recording an 8k image even more so. I don't think they'll be able to do it as a price point lower than the CF weapons and I'm not sure they would want to as that would cannibalize their high end camera, and upset their high end customer base.
 
I'll make a prediction. Black Magic will announce a new camera at Nab. Stick that in your Hitler video. :)
 
If you are shooting on Epic-W - AND - you have a contracted UHD/4K deliverable - AND - you need to shoot 7K or 8K to get S35-ish FOV, then you may need to upgrade your post workflow tools. For better or worse, most projects still finish at 1080/2K, so scaled ProRes/DNxHD files should give you an solid option that avoids dealing with 8K. If your need for UHD/4K media is only occasional, then you could potentially run your 8K files through RCX-Pro to create UHD/4K "masters" in log format as hero media. You could farm that task out, or hire a well equipped DIT to do the initial flip for you or just make the time needed to do it yourself part of the plan going in.

If delivering UHD/4K media on deadline is part of your world, then you may want to get a Carbon Weapon or build out a shredder computer system able to crush 8K material - or both ;-).

And you want us to use Google search to look it up Jarred, they don't listen at all :) I've had the android team listen a number of times, but apparently never had a suggestion get adopted by the sesrch team. Hence android is getting better vs search. I feel frustrsted enough to throw Google search against the wall sometimes but unfortunately its in my phone (not healthy for the phone, tried it once). :)

What, you want us to actually walk up.the hill to collect the free bags of gold Jarred. My feet arches went brittle and collapsed early this year from my health, do you know how much walking hurts. I haven't been able to exercise walk on my feet when well since and I'm gaining weight. What, are you one of those people that goes around telling people in wheel chairs how legless you got the night before?.. I don't know. Now pass thoss free bags of gold down here. :)

Seriously, companies are becoming douches, after all money fie as little sevice as possible. It causes them to malfunction, and puts the gang planks out for real competitors to come on board and offer real service, like Red, and send them broke. When people realise they are stuffed with these companies they will start to head over to new ones.

Also allocated on my sidehandle, time stamp April 16, 2016 20:44, but I told my rep to go ahead and cancel the order so someone else can get use of my allocation and I don't have it sitting around for months unused like my 4.7" touch and base expander. Still waiting on that Dec 10 SW brain!

Same here, but didn't cancel. My rep confirmed I could let those behind me in the queue jump ahead and pick my allocation back up when my S-W gets allocated.
 
Darn, I'm April 16 2016 17:26 and no allocation on the side handle. I bet it's soon though. More focused on the camera at the moment.
