what is this Epic-W?
is it a new body?
is it a new sensor?
is it better than Weapon CF or current Helium 8K?

If you read back a few pages there's been plenty of information to give you a rough idea of where the Epic-W will stand in the Red lineup.

New body, almost certainly DSMC2 is here to stay
New sensor, has already been confrimed to be Helium
Better than Weapon CF and Helium 8K, unlikely. The price has been hinted at 30k for the body. The early 'stormtrooper' customers spent 59K on their bodies I believe so it's nearly half of that. Of course Weapon CF is more than 30k too.

I'd say that Epic-W is a perfect middle ground between Scarlet-W and the super high end (Helium 8k, Weapon CF/VV). My guess would be a cut of the Helium sensor but not all the way to 8k, perhaps 6k.

I shoot a ton of action sports, am I asking too much of the Helium sensor if I want some next level HFR? Either way, this seems like the perfect camera for me. My MX has been amazing and hasn't skipped a beat, but I think it's time to upgrade.

I can't wait to hear some full specs, bring on October!!!

Forgive me if I missed this, but will this discount be available to individuals who ordered through a dealer?

So many questions, so much I would be mad at Jarred for answering : )

Some stuff will be available on RED.com. Other stuff, will be more complex so will have to work with your rep directly to take full advantage...

which one is better? Epic-W or Weapon-CF ? Still holding myself not upgrade to Weapon-CF and wait until october.

Still haven't heard any official word on if SW dealer switchers get the deal. I assume they do, but I don't know. Any word on that?

I wonder if there are more in my boat, I got a call from a Red rep I didnt know telling me a dealer near me would be a better way to go. I said I would like to talk to the dealer before making the decision. Half an hour later I got an introduction email from the Red rep to the dealer and myself. He stated I was going with them and that he had canceled my Red.com order. Would be a shame if this affects my ability to get to Epic-W from my Scarlet-W preorder with the discount.

Did anyone else have a similar experience? Does this affect our Epic-W upgrade path discount? Thanks for the good times!

You are claiming unfairness even before you know the details?

Well, I think that's inevitable with all the details not being released at once.

And to be fair, from what we know so far he does seem to be right. If I'm reading it right, you've got some people who waited paying the price of an Epic Dragon + ~$10,000 for an Epic-W, some people who didn't paying the price of an Epic Dragon + $14,000 + $9950 for an Epic-W, and the luckiest luckersons paying just the price of a Scarlet-W + $10,000 for an Epic-W. That's three groups who have paid *very* different prices for the same camera.

From your track record I know you guys will find a way to take care of everyone. and I don't mean to bust your chops too much knowing that offering any of these deals at all is a financial hit you didn't have to take, but yeah, the downside of the way you guys like to give sneak previews is that there will be some confusion sometimes.

To be fair they did say it would be more than 10K for Epic Dragon and MX owners to move up. The MX crowd getting another shot after already getting a second chance to move into Dragon after the deal ended originally is also puzzling, this is basically a third warning for MX owners. Just hard to keep track of it all.

How I see the MG crossover is you're already in the DSMC 2.0 line. It seems to me, just from what i've read, that the Epic-W will be the same cost as the MG. It isn't really an upgrade, rather a parallel choice to the Weapon MG. Similar to how Helium is kind of a parallel to the VV. It was even called a side ways move. To me that sounds like you can kind of choose one or the other. If it really is an upgrade maybe we see a price drop for the MG?

I've asked this before, if we're looking to get into DSMC 2.0, but not really able to afford to upgrade to VV, MG or Epic-W, might there be a sideways deal to Scarlet-W in some form? Just tossing that idea out there.

That's what I thought. So to me the different upgrade paths from the different cameras seem quite fair and reasonable. Not sure what the issue with earlier posters are about.

Only if we consider paying for, but not receiving, a camera for 10+ months "lucky." Many have taken out loans to pay for the Scarlet-Ws (and accessories), and those loans have been paid each month despite the fact that the cameras (and their potential earning power) have not yet been received. Others paid in full right away anticipating a March or April delivery. I think that's the type of situation that RED is trying to address by giving (non-allocated) Scarlet-W people some level of priority. They simply don't have cameras in their hands yet.

That said, it will probably not come out perfectly equal in the end. However, I applaud RED's efforts to make things right in the best way they can. That's a rare level of customer service these days.

And I think it's worth noting that the majority of this is based on speculation. Yes, they've given us some hints. But until we know the full details of how they're going to price and prioritize, let's give RED the benefit of the doubt.

I think the post just before mine that I quoted alludes to it.

I'm not going to say anything at this point because as we all know "things change" and we should "count on it". And we also don't know all the details. I'm hoping some options that all can take advantage of are offered. At this point I'm just excited to see what it is, and see what options are available. Hopefully one presents itself that makes sense for everyone.

Agreed. It's all speculation till it goes official anyhow. All I kno is that I can't wait to get mine no matter what path I have to pay for.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but welcome to the club. I waited 7+ months after I took out a loan for the Scarlet MX to take delivery of my camera, then about a year and a half for the Dragon upgrade. I'd venture to say plenty of folks on RU have done the same. Not saying it isn't deserved to get a hook up. Just saying that plenty of us have had to wait on cameras while already being invested.
