  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Epic is class name, while the "W" is the iteration so Epic W is certainly DSMC2

I am not sure Red ever makes mandatory to pay in full before allocation. Allocation to shipment is usually in days, so I don't see the arguement of "tie up $20k+ in a camera package for eight months". Usual deposit for Scarlet-W is between $1-$2k, so I would assume the "REAL" financial tie-down is the deposit and not the value of the package being ordered. Besides, I ordered my Wpn MG upgrade in May 2015, at $5K deposit and never got allocated until Feb 2016. That's 9 months wait mate!!!

I understand Jarred's generousity sometimes does not obey the law of arithmetics nor product price classfication, the only law his moves seems to obey is "customer satisfaction" which in this case is reducing wait period between order and delivery so as not to hurt the brand in the long run. And thats why its Red, and I have benefitted twice in the past from such generosity, but I tell you, DO NOT sleep on the day cos that deal would not last even an hour before the queue builds up to where we are at the moment with S-W queue.
 
I really think we should just wait patiently until the final price & specs announcement.

It's not that far away anyways. How fair is RED towards a group of people of another is just pure speculation at this point, we don't know a lot of stuff yet. But what I think is that they will be very fair to everybody on every level into the RED ecosystem, they've always been.
 
Here are my two questions. You know Jarred because you don't have enough right now.

1. I ordered my Scarlet-W through a dealer. If by some miracle mine arrives in the next couple of weeks will I still be eligible for the upgrade?

2. Crop factor is a huge deciding point for me. I love the size the 5K Scarlet will give me. Plus my current computer will handle 5K R3Ds with no problem. It struggles with 6K and higher. If I do get the Epic upgrade and shoot it in 5K will the crop be more than Scarlet or the same. For the type work I do this is crucial so that's why I ask.

3. Let's say I'm one of the first 20 to jump the line. How long is the wait for Epic?
And will this even work if I ordered through a dealer or should I really speak to them?
 
I suppose it will record from 8K to 2K? If you dont want the crop factor we can still record 8K pro res only so that we dont have a cropped image, but yes wondering how the 5K will look?
 
I would take this in a heartbeat, because I went for the Scarlet W with my new started company and small buisiness after working for big ones. Now I see my selv paying on the morgage of the Scarlet-W but I dont have any camera. So I have to pay the bank and rent camera from others. And when I use it, I just love the RED even more. But if I dont get the camera soon I will be bankrupped. SO! Is this an actual deal? Because I will take it and ask the bank for more money. Or, when is it possible that we will get the camera? Will work the same way Raven -> Scarlet-W switchers. Time stamps will hold for those who have Scarlet-W pre-orders. However, it hasn't been confirmed about who gets priority first. The Epic-MX upgraders, or Scarlet-W to Epic-W switchers.

At least you don't get to pull the fund from the card till you get allocation hence no bank payment yet. That was my point. A lot people tend to create the impression that they paid for camera and Red is making them wait while the funds could have been utilized elsewhere. Whereas what they paid was a "deposit" and not full payment

A deposit that is fully refundable, I might add.

When you preorder a camera and expect it in a few weeks/months, that money you have allocated to pay for the camera is essentially tied up until you get the email, if you plan on paying for it immediately. Yeah, it's tied up, otherwise why preorder in the first place?

But again, we walk into this eyes wide open, makes it a little hard to complain about other Redusers/Filmmakers getting treated well. Feels like sour grapes. Anyways, isn't there a thread called "Shoot that Scarlet"? Maybe we need a "Shoot that camera in your hands" thread.
 
Kinda lost track of how much we know so far about epic-w....

helium sensor, but some crop of it? So smaller than s35 and less than 8k?

given dragon is already 6k, will this be a 7k crop?
 
I think the big question for me now is whether when the next upgrade comes, maybe in a few years, will those who choose an Epic-W over the Weapon Mg have preference from Red? While they seem to be sister cameras, will the next upgrade be only for those with Helium sensors, or would their upgrade be cheaper or first in line? If it's possible to forecast at all, it's a big weight in the equation.

I guess this is a stupid question then, but does that mean that RED is ok if I would pay for the whole package before I'm allocated?

You are claiming unfairness even before you know the details? Also, for clarity’s sake, pretty sure you did not just get the WEAPON Mg DRAGON brain as part of that upgrade, no?

Of course. People do that for various reasons. Does not speed up WHEN you are allocated, but ONCE you are allocated, quicker processing since payment info back and forth is already sorted.

So, this will not be the "contact your rep to change the order" like the switch from raven to scarlet-w?
i would have to place a separate deposit/order for the epic-w and the pricing will be adjusted?
