Wish there were no 6K Weapon line in between.Straight upgrade to 8K Helium or 8K VV from 6K Dragons.i think 6K Weapon would have shortest life.Think about upgrading to 6K WPN now and its already obselete

I think I remember Jarred saying the WEAPON form factor will stay the same for the next four years.

I was prepping my 5k mx monochrome today for a shoot tomorrow, it holds up excellently against my 6k weapon. I take like "forever" to do a shoot so I have to mix between scarlet MX, dragon and weapon dragon in a scene. I can get really nice cuts within a scene across all three sensors as long as I didn't screw up the lighting on the shot. I probably have the most problems with the initial dragon sensor, before I started using the gio scope.

yeah i know that its the body design will stay at least few years around. What i dont understand is why releasing Helium 1 year after Weapon 6K CF? My friend just got his Weapon 6K CF invested lotta dollars in it and customers already asking for 8K Helium.

Yeah, I hear ya on the sensors. As it turns out, the Helium may be very helpful to RED in getting other orders fulfilled, as Jarred stated. First time he has confirmed that RED is more than just a content-maker-as-customer camera supplier.

Maybe we should just get out of the camera-owning business and go to work for all those *non-civilian camera hogs. '-)

* non civilian being anyone not on REDuser.

Nothing positive there. Be careful making up stories with nothing to back it up here on Reduser.

so, you havent seen the multiple issues reported? not exactly sure what i made up
or was it this part
"as it seems that the production came to a halt" There was no definite statement made from me in regards to the slow down. Only an assumption. given Jarreds response though, my *assumption* was incorrect

If one has to adjust that much to get all sensors to match it must be fairly different. One could do the same sort of thing with a cheap camera if you could get the raw, with sensors matching. Years ago, as a joke, waiting to get a scarlet fixed, I was going to post multiple jpeg'd frames from it and my $100 HDR h264 video camera, as undesignated sample frames, and see if anybody realised there was another camera in there (the $100 camera had more stops apparently).

I'm waiting to see if there is a helium camera released for me.

Until we see who the sensor plant is that they use, it is hard to say. Maybe they have bought a production facility from an old sensor manufacturer (many about). If you worked our the logistics of sent and recieved announcements you might work out distance, and which plant it is. Even if baked and received, you can work out the time to prepare for shipment.

I think that is called buying a new camera....but yes, such a short shelf life for the sensor seems a little odd. well, we hope it is short, this could become a rather long queue.

Will be interesting to see if higher spec boards are eventually offered as an upgrade to the DSMC2 bodies to handle larger rasters. As far as we know, only the CF Weapons and the Helium troopers can do 8K with either sensor, so far...

Cheers - #19

Dragon has actually had the longest "shelf life" of any sensors we have made before it.. and it continues to be the workhorse of the industry and will continue to do so for some time.

Our lineup will become simplified come October.. as it is getting a bit confusing with all the options.

I'm guessing the following happens.

All but two DSMC1 cameras are removed - would make sense to keep Epic-x-dragon & Scarlet-Dragon for the large, enterprise, and/or customers with large investments in DSMC1 already.

Upgrades for Epic to Weapon will stop - They start MG WPN to CF / CF 8k upgrades

Forged WPN isn't being sold after Oct - This is a 50/50 chance imo

Epic-W & Helium 8k are officially released.

I'd expect the Epic-W to be near the MG weapon price point.

Of course I'm probably 100% wrong, but time will tell.

You are only 50% wrong. :)

Now that I'm actually able to shoot with a Dragon I'm not surprised. I haven't had time to color grade any of the footage I've shot with it so far, so I've just been picking RedGamma4 and sending out preview clips to the folks I've been working with... and everyone's been very happy... and I don't have a DSMC2 yet.

Let me guess, we don't get to know what 50% until you evade your adult supervision again? :)

Brent is going on another one of his family vacation's very soon... And I hear it is very far from Internet access. ;)
