  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Was hoping these upgrade paths would lighten the demand for the Scarlet-W so I could get it sooner. Guess not now.... :(

Nick, thank you for standing up for all other Dragon owners and trying to convince Jarred so that they can maintain their upgrade paths.

REDuser is a community of camera enthusiasts and we, feeling at home, sometimes voice our opinions in a way that sounds harsher than we intend to.

thing thats gonna make it shorter is the SW people. and don't forget. the SCARLET-W is shipping faster now anyhow. the original raven switchers prob took up a huge chunk of cameras, looks like they are getting through the list
 
I really don't get all the hate.

I once invested money in a pedal powered jeep. A year later they came out with an electric one. If I wanted that one I had to buy it new full price.

I once invested money in a TV. It was a SD TV. Six months later they came out with a HDready one. If I wanted that one I had to buy it new full price.

I once invested a lot of money in apple products, three months later they came out with new ones. If I wanted that one I had to buy it new full price.

I once invested money in a canon c100 mk1. They came out with a mk2. If I wanted that one I had to buy it new full price.

I once invested money in a Canon xl1. They came out with another one.... You guessed it...

If you can't handle this shit, go to another brand for your camera's. I've heard Gopro 5 i amazing you don't need anything else. But nextyear you need to buy the new one, full price.
 
I am very heavily invested in Dragon too and couldn't afford to upgrade to Weapon MG at the time. Because of this Amazingly generous Offer from Red I have managed to scrape the cash together to upgrade 2 out of 3 of our cameras. I am afraid that 1 of our cameras will remain a Epic Dragon which is still the most amazing camera. Now I will probably only be able to afford to upgrade 1 out of our 3 cams .
Oh Well
Team Red has still made my business possible with upgrade paths and trade in deals.

To Jarred, Brent AND all of the Dragon AND MX owners out there who are now undoubtedly affected!

I have buddies that are Dragon owners that were SUPER PSYCHED to jump! I still have an MX that I couldn't afford to jump to Dragon, and now was over the moon that I have a chance to go Epic-W with! I am so PROUD to be a Red shooter... and it sucks that some people ruin it for us all!

I appreciate what you guys do for us Jarred, Brent and the ARMY that stands behind you, arms crossed, ready for battle! I sincerely hope you reconsider! Need more Nutella?
 
BTW, I'm an Epic Dragon owner, living in NYC and I did not attend the anti-RED summit.

lol, but Nick seems like a cool dude from reduser, so let him live, guys. He's not speaking for the whole city.

Epic Dragon guys upgrading to Epic-W doesn't help shorten the line at all, since they are not freeing up Scarlet-Ws. They would be taken care of after Scarlet-W guys anyways so it really has no effect.

Epic Dragon owners should not of had this Epic-W opportunity at all, it was a courtesy just so they didnt feel left out. But obviously that courtesy was missed, abused and somehow turned into entitlement.

Its actually better for you guys now.. Since this option is removed it will free up more Epic-Ws for more SW and MG Weapon and Carbon Weapon guys... who actually deserve this upgrade... so you all win by actually getting your cameras sooner.

But make no mistake... Im done bending over.

My team has worked the last 6 months with no sleep to the point of breakdowns and tremendous strain on their families trying to catch up with the backorder situation that we got ourselves into just to do right by our customers. We are taking a massive, massive financial hit with this Epic-W discount to those that have been waiting for way too long as Scarlet-W and free sensors to the Carbon weapon guys waiting too. Just because we feel bad about making you wait.

And guess what.. pretty much every other company also makes you wait. BM had an unexpected year and a half on their last camera, Arri's SXT is still an unexpected year and a half wait, list goes on. We are offering shit no other company would even think about. And some of you still bitch and complain.

So anyone that thinks that we are mistreating you and not doing our best to help you all.. please, please, please sell your cameras and go buy something else.
 
Same here. Super excited about RED's most generous upgrade offer. But if ordering a Scarlet-W is what it takes to take a discounted path to Epic-W, just let me know, because then that's what I'm gonna do. Credit card is standing by. Because even though the direct upgrade from Epic Dragon would have been the greatest deal of all time, that route, too, is still so ridiculously generous that I don't intend to miss out on it.
 
I'm going to call up Sony and complain that I can't trade in my a7sII for a f65, and see if I can get it for $10k.

Not Epic-W, those that are waiting on 8K VV are going to Weapon Heliums ( if they want )
 
To add to your list:

I once bought an M10, they then dropped the price by 50% and bought out the M15

I once bought an Alta 6 only for the Alta 8 to be bought out within months.

My main point being tech moves fast these days and i don't see any other company offering insane (optional) upgrade paths to keep you at the bleeding edge, honest apologies and insight into unforeseen delays, sneak peaks at forthcoming changes and lets not forget this is all for you and me, the customers!
It must be a logistical nightmare to come up with avenues that will keep everyone happy, but i think its obvious that the whole Red team are coming from a good place and not trying to trickfuck anyone

+1 Nick is a GREAT dude. loves Red cameras. Loves Reduser. Loves his moded contax lenses. He's written some great articles about red. (google it) He works hard and loves what he does... he's no mere mortal here.. honest opinions should never be silenced. no need to send flowers.

Jarred, I respect what you and your team at Red do for everyone. You guys are amazing, the cameras you guys produce are amazing. I am happy to be rejoining the Red family and look forward to getting my camera no matter how long it takes.

From a first time Red Owner, I wanted to extend a huge thank you to the whole team. I truly do not understand how people can be upset- you guys have been 100% transparent the whole time through the entire backorder process, and are going way above and beyond by offering the most generous deal I have ever seen.

I have always been impressed by RED's cameras, but through this I have been extremely impressed by RED's culture. Thank you for all your hard work and for genuinely caring about your customers. Much respect.
 
Oh no! As a recent dragon owner I was super stoked on the upgrade path offered. I originally had a Scarlet-W order but didn't have another camera and had a few opportunities that would benefit from owning. so jumped on a used Dragon expecting that I would have to upgrade to Weapon fairly quickly to keep on the upgrade path as I knew the weapon upgrade would not last forever.

But to offer an upgrade to a better camera for pretty much the same cost blew me away, so stoked and super generous. Yes it's a lot of money but so was the weapon upgrade I was looking at. Not only that but the since I was in a place were I had my camera for the last few months vs still waiting I was able to make the money needed for the upgrade.

I don't see how it is unfair to help out the people waiting especially for some who are in the early stages growing there career that may have missed out on certain opportunities because they didn't have a camera yet. As someone who still wouldn't have my scarlet yet but took the path of dragon it has helped me more than the difference in cost between the two just in my career and opportunities and we still got tossed a rad deal with the upgrade so I don't get why people are complaining.

Its all the difference between time and money and to all the complaining owners would you trade a $10k deal for the last 10 months of shooting your camera cause I wouldn't. As well a lot of Scarlet-w buyers are buying there first red camera building there career vs people with dragons have been owned for a while and most likely are further along in their careers. it's like complaining about a emerging filmmaker ant because your not eligible anymore. Be stoked that red is offering us an opportunity to leapfrog the weapon mg and go shoot with the camera you already have to pay for the upgrade.
