  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I'm really glad that's how it works, I'd love to see some of my scarlet brothers that's been waiting get first hands on the Epic-W. I think the priority is RAVEN QUEUE > SCARLET-W QUEUE > EVERYONE ELSE, I don't think current Scarlet-W owners get priority sequence over older gens?

Totally and that makes sense. I'm not worried about getting my camera first, just wondering what the quickest option would be under my situation as a dragon owner keen to upgrade now that the mg isn't an option.

I think Raven and scarlet will be treated equally and go by timestamp. As far as priority of trade ins I think it all depends on how fast they place their order on October 11th. I'm happy because whatever I end up with (hopefully financing plans make it possible for me to go from Raven to e-w) it will be my first red and it will change the possibilities of what I can do now with my current equipment and I can't wait for that. No matter who's first in line, everyone wins as far as I can tell

Agree completely, there is something for us all. In the end you light and shoot well, it'll all look great on RED sensors, dragon or helium

Agreed I'm just excited to finally own one, ive waited since February and I know others have waited even longer but the stuff I see that the talented people here post reaffirm not only that these cameras are a hell of an investment, but also that this really is something that can help create incredible images that honestly wouldn't be possible at this price point if it weren't offered by red and the boundaries had been pushed.

As for respecting "those that don't" I dare say there aren't many people here who will purposely wait until after 10/11 and then place an order for Epic-W - just so they can spend an extra $10K - unless they are doing it to get to the front of the line. Looks like you are fairly new to the RED ecosystem so maybe you aren't too familiar with how REDuser works with information dissemination. Sometimes its a matter of keeping you ear close to the ground.

Seriously, no I'm not joking.

That Jarred is fine with people "gaming the system" (his words) speaks volumes about how awesome Red is as a company.

but he also made it clear that the discount was specifically put in place as a "sorry, we fucked up" for S-W customers who have been waiting a long time. If you're cool with taking advantage of that, then all power to you. There's no judgment from me, it's just not something I would be comfortable with myself.

There re is judgment, however around passive aggressive bullshit like "looks like you are fairly new to the Red ecosystem". What, are you twelve years old?

I think a lot of this who's first stuff is tit for tat, I think everyone will be happy on 10/11 as long as you have cash in hand

Dude, seriously?? You're making me laugh. You've got Jarred as well as others pointing out the normality of working within the criteria that has been set up and you're suggesting I am doing something dishonorable? What would you have me do to move from DSMC1 to DSMC2. Do you think I should not be allowed to move past Scarlet-W? Verboten! I should have total a "time out" while others get to move forward. I should simply be "a good guy" and cut RED an extra check for $10K? Can I count on you for a Kickstarter contribution of half? What is it exactly that makes you so protective and indignant? Not sure what situation you are in but I am wondering why you are feeling so put-upon. If I have stepped on your toes, I am sorry. Not sure what I have done to "cheat you" but I assure you it wasn't intended - and, most likely, is more of a perception on your part than a reality.

You have been here for less than a year and have a relatively few posts. I think it is true that you just don't have the experience around here to "get" how it works. I'd suggest you refrain from rendering a vocal judgment when you don't know what you are talking about. But I am sure you know better.

You don't require them... but you sure can use the speed if you have them.

Epic-W has almost exactly double the max data rate capability that Scarlet-W has.
 
I think if team RED is offering us such great deals - then why not take them? We would be stupid not to. We all love the same thing - filmmaking, so why not upgrade if we can and have even greater tools in our hands. Yes indeed, come 11th we'll all be happy campers no doubt.
 
I'm glad RED seems to appreciate the value of staying on the bleeding edge of tech. It's not only fun but it can also be extremely profitable for us end users. Glad you guys keep pushing so that we can follow suit. This is my camera for the foreseeable future.
 
Hey Jarred - Will Epic Dragon work well as a B Cam to Epic W for interviews with both cams using Heliumcolor? Or should I be saving up for two Heliums? I know that with enough time and skills you can make any two cams match reasonably well in post, but for most of my work I need two cams that match well right out of the box with minimal effort.
