  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The single greatest SHOT ever...?

"Touch of Evil" - opening sequence

Yes, another "typical" :) film school quote particularly, though not strictly, from the directing POV side. Great one, actually.

I am looking for the right image but it is a bit hard... not much out there from this scene. But I am sure everyone remembers it... from "Se7en" and from the sloth scene.

Also agree with the helicopter shot in the first pages from "Apocalypse Now" and many many more posted here.

Surely:...???!!!
One righteous man against badness and cowardice; one bad man about to meet his match; and the cracking final (freeze) frame from Peter Weir's incredible Gallipoli--a film about a (the) fundamental cornerstone of Australia.

The opening sequence in Tarsem's "The Fall". Especially when the rope is thrown into the water, but you see the shadow of it first ... I'd post screen shots, but haven't found any yet.

Gotta break out the silent DVDs and get some shots up here, I guess.

By the way, JPP, what's the final shot there? I know the other three, but can't place the last one (though I feel I should know this one).

Something called "Innocence". First time director, I can't remember her name, came out around 2003(?) Worth seeing. As sweepstakes go, the first 3 should be pretty easy, but I wonder how well the crew will do here....?

Didn't see it; will have to check it out sometime. I guess back in 2004 I was too distracted by Oshii's 'Innocence' to notice that there was another film with the same name out at the same time.

Speaking of great shots.... :gun:

This is not the shot I was looking for but there were many memorable shots in 2046.

Wong Kar Wai knows how to photo beautiful women (even though I don't like to see women smoking, he manages to make that look sexy somehow)

I feel weird posting here cause I an not a DoP, and it is basically impossible for me not to be bias... I find it impossible to ignore the content within the scene/movie. Not sure if this was part of what you guys talked about towards the beginning of this long thread.

I do however love the composition of this 4:3 frame, blocking, wardrobe which compliments the location/set decoration, lovely overall color pallete, and the background really works for me.

Anything from Andrei Rubliev... wish I had a screen grab or something... B&W has never looked so good.

I don't know about the best, but I'm pretty sure the opening explosion shot in Swordfish is the most expensive. At least for Warner Bros.

Yea, but there is no one frame that could give you a glimpse of what that explosion sequence was like... that was awesome freaggin' explosion! certainly top 10 possibly top 5 without any thought.
