The Scarlet Path That Jarred Mentioned...

Try upgrading a Sony or a Canon. I have a Scarlet MX. I don't feel screwed. It is a camera that still outperforms many, many cameras and it is from 2011.

I think he was expecting the upgrade love that the original one's got to Epic, those days are gone.

Yeah I was expecting the same love as all the other model owners. Even the Raven was a 4k camera and red, as a gift, pushed it to 4.5k without any reason. It's just sad that the Scarlet was always the camera Red didn't care about concerning owners, and crippled all the way.

I think it looks rad, it's everything I would want in a cinema camera. Losing 6k for timelaps and stills sucks, but you gain pro res, less weight, better image processing, better blackshading, better wireless, more frame rates, less compression... etc etc.

The fact that its price is significantly lower than the Scarlet-D I suppose explains why there's no trade in. I bet you could sell your scarlet-D, with side module, one ssd, lens mount, and battery mount and cover a good portion of that 12,000, which is a kit that includes all those things anyway.

Exactly.

Look, I don't know what you were hoping for, but the upgrade from MX to Dragon was $9500 (for just a sensor upgrade, no new body for MX owners), which is why I took my MX off the upgrade path - it did not make financial sense to pay nearly as much for the upgrade, as I had paid for the brand new camera. By comparison, the upgrade from D to W is $12,000 - plus you get a new camera body, not just a sensor upgrade - so this pricing is quite consistent with the previous Scarlet upgrade.

I wasn't psyched about pulling my Scarlet from the upgrade path, but in hindsight, it has been fine. It still shoots beautiful images, and it is still working.

Sam, no love, really? You get $2500 discount on a bundle - only available to SCARLET DRAGON owners - and get to keep your camera and sell it, if you want, to reduce your net cost? Crippled?

Come on. I don't need 2 cameras.

I don't know what the current used rate is for a Scarlet Dragon, but have you considered selling your current Scarlet Dragon? Then you have the discount plus the money you got for your Scarlet. I certainly understand not needing two cameras. This is the approach I took with the RED ONE to EPIC upgrade back in the day.

This is not an "upgrade", you keep your SCARLET DRAGON.
