  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The " SCARLET AIR SHIP " Im so EXCITED!!!

Hi Bill,

Cool Stuff! I have been out of the RC world for a couple of decades now but still have my old ducted fan jets and several planes. I got rid of some choppers a while back that were outdated. I am interested in the Droidworx to maybe fly my EPIC-X someday. It should come in under 10 lbs with not too big a lens on it. I would fly my Wifes' Canon T1i first however!! :)

So, the SkyJib. Is that your name for the Droidworx airframe you pictured? I was unable to find that title on their site. It looks like the AD6 Heavy Lift - Extended chassis maybe?. I would also like to know what avionics package you use. This is just talking stages for me right now but I appreciate your offer to give some of your hard earned knowledge.

We build Ready to fly UAV,s for any job or camera.
remember this , it is best to make a Airframe suitable for the weight the camera is.
anything else is a waste of money or energy for that matter.

and so give some comment on the previous posts:

a Hexa skyjib wont be a very safe aircraft to lift any red product with.
and the engines like the 4120 wont help eather.
if one engine fails , on that total weight it wont return safe , to much power loss
all you read are theoretic setups, but not flown
as for the aircraft shown that lift 20 lbs , yes sure but have a look at the wapping 300 amps it pulls :-)
not to mention the total batterys it would need or destroy just on hover.

so we also engineered one for RED epic or RED scarlet same weight less costs.
we builded a Skyjib 8 that uses 51 amps in hover lifting 8 LBS.
so with one 8000 mah battery this will give you about 8 minutes max on this setup.
most television productions or any other filming 8 minutes is plenty for one shot , return to home and replace battery.
if your interested send me a mail or have a look on www.digitech.nl
the hoverfly looks interesting , but they have not a good reputation on any octo setup.
they are not freely to program , you are dependant on the given setups by the factory.

Sandor

Hi Sandor,

ill post some video and stats

Thank you

Quite simply, operating an aerial camera platform for hire is ILLEGAL in the U.S. point blank. The poster mentioned that he has flown in the past with FAA permission meaning that he has gone through the proper COA certifications? How is this possible when there are currently no official ruling on regulations? The poster also states on his site that he flies the RED yet there is no footage from the RED on his site. Be smart and keep your illegal business operations to yourself like all the other SMART aerial operators. All it takes is for someone to report you to the FAA not to mention you actually fly your rigs via FPV beyond line of site....this is a double whammy and very very dangerous to the public and illegal in the U.S. These craft are NOT professional grade and failures are guaranteed. What people don't see are the many catastrophic crashes behind closed doors.

Were you paid by the The History Channel for your work in the "Harvest?"

Hi Christopher,

1. You are miss informed - How can it be illegal when I have been hired by the FAA and Homeland Security to provide aerial surveillance and crash photos :) ,
2. I have had 4 NEWS Stories done on my company over the 8years ive been doing this.
3. Ive shot with a RED three times and used a clients camera each time and have no rights to the footage.
4. I have never flown beyond visual Range!!
5. If you would like a direct number to the people at the FAA, give me a call and ill give it to you (970) 531-2062
6. The aerial work for the History channel was FREE!!!!!!!
7. If you actually think the FAA/government does not know about every rc aerial company providing services, your are sadly mistaken. Maybe you are unfamiliar with the RCAPA. 1000+ aerial companies :) SHHHHHHH dont tell anyone lol..

Your Post is very dramatic and im not sure what you mean by there are "many catastrophic crashes behind closed doors"? This might be the case in you house but in the past 8 years and hundreds and hundreds of flights , ive had 2 on the job malfunctions. Also i have UAV insurance

Thank you
Bill

Hi Alan,

The SkyJib is the newest ship to the Droidworx fleet. Here is a link http://www.droidworx.com.au/skyjib.html
The Flight Control board i use is the Hoverfly Pro W/GPS. Its very stable in high winds. - http://www.hoverflytech.com/

Thank you

i didnt make the video , the guys from airfilms did.
i just gave the Red wings thats all..
more important , it toulk a year to develope to have it ready for sale and user friendly.

I am curious, is there a reason that no one uses a fuel powered craft rather than batteries ?
Something akin to the Honeywell T-hawk ( stays up for 40 min )

Liquid fuel has way more power to weight that lithium polymer batteries. And there is no charging time. You just pour it in ! Amazing new invention, liquid fuel ;)

Just wondering.

I am just guessing but being somewhat familiar with model aircraft engines, they are very noisy, they vibrate like hell even when dampers are used and engine attenuation across multiple motors would be a nightmare.

fuel isnt quick enough to hover , secondly there is smoke and a ot of Carbon gasses
we fly green! :-)
you dont power your RED with a piston engine>?
