THE RICH AND THE POOR -(my new soap to be shot on RED)

This forum consists of a bunch of camera nerds.

Some of them are professionals in a sense that they can make a living out of their ability to harness complex technology.

Some are aspiring indy filmmakers and storytellers who dream about putting their ideas on the big screen.

Some want to break into the industry and figure that this new camera could be a means to do that.

Some are in the industry somewhere and feel the need to catch up with the demand for cutting edge technology.

Some have discovered a new market and are keen to exploit it.

Some are in love with technology and want to learn all the ins and outs.

Some have the urge to be the authority on the hot topic in town.

Some just want to shoot and need to figure out how this new camera they bought works and roam the forum for helpful information.

Some are disciples of the church of RED, who praise their leader and worship the sacred cow.

Some are paid for being here.

Some think they are special because of whatever reasons. Some are ignorant. Some are stubborn. Some are desperate. Some are touchy. Some are pissed off.

Some are gracious and like to share their knowledge.

Some just like to communicate with their peers.

Some are all of the above or none or a mixture.

All of them have a computer at home or at work and spend too much time in front of it...

AWESOME!

gear is gear...the weak link is often the "nut on the end of it".

But good gear makes good people look better, and often allows them to make even better work.

I never could get the "hollywood blockbuster" look out of DV....dunno why, just can't no matter what "effect" you apply :)

Now we are shooting handheld shots and doing all motion stabilizing in post, could not do that with DV, or even HDV or HDVCPRO without crappy up rezzing and resulting soft images....now with RED we have so much information to burn it does not matter at all if we crop and zoom to stabilize the shots. Just got done shooting out of a chopper handheld and we have now ended up with ROCK SOLID shots as if we flew a gyro mount wescam or something...:)

Good point.

I stopped shooting DV and HDV for narrative almost two years ago. I just couldn't stand it. After all the lighting, camera moves, post effects... it just didn't really look right in the end. Even the 35mm adapter stuff got old fast.

Finally I got my RED and now I'm really happy so I could call myself a gear snob too. Everyone has their own level of snobbiness. For the next guy it's film only.

yep, pretty much, but I can't stand DV feature "hollywood films" and I can't stand HD "Hollywood films" so to me, even if they use it on "big" projects I don't want to watch it. It's a taste thing I guess.

I like well made cars, cameras, and tools. I don't buy cheap throw away stuff if I can help it, and I cant stand poorly made products.

If something costs more and lasts longer I am all for it.
