  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The R90

It's actually sad how useful this particular tool would've been to me on my recent photo project. Maybe next time :frown2:

Well, not knowing the dynamics of your project, I can't sympathize for the need of the R90 on it, even so I need to make clear that the R90, doe snot rotate via Electronic or automatic movement, not that you couldn't do so yourself with careful timing on the span of the travel, but it will be surely a thing to master, also much depending on the rig it self and how it is set up, but this is specifically made to Manually move the position to Landscape or Portrait and be locked in place in seconds for a very Fast and comfortable shoot... AT LAST... ;)

But I for sure have been waiting for some time now on the RED R90, ever since i first sow Prototype at Red Hollywood Studios, that Jim and Jarred showed me, I wanted to trick them and take it with me that same day... ;)

I had to try and use several different heads, and I was so unhappy with all of them that I literally STOPPED shooting Portrait on EPIC, sadly, finally the game will move on and I can at last create my PORTRAIT Video and Still Frame Extraction Galleries... ;)

Very true. Mostly it would have allowed me to have a track to roll 90 degrees...it would still take much effort to do this smoothly. I ended up doing digital movements and compositing because of some shoot logistics (props not being ready in time to climb the mountain). I could definitely see how the r90 fits into portraiture and fashion work. I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone does with this new tool.

Link for this head please

The Still Frame extraction will be printed and also be part of my new "EPIC Still Gallery" on our site as soon as it is completed, but for now you can view one of the video clips, even so does not give justice unless seen o a Portrait Mode Monitor... ;)

I truly can't wait to get this next Fedex Box from RED, the R90 will bring for me an amazing showcasing power of what I have in mind and I have a 60" Portrait capable Monitor to go with it seating right here... ;)

PS: This particular shoot, was to present an idea of Head Turners, were you simply look at it thinking its a Still Frame, and then it Moves, this is not stopped, simply been recorded consciously in HFR and played back at 24fps, so to dramatized her Stop/motion.

Hahahahhah...
Sorry Ketch, I was talking about Tripod head (lol)

Really cool looking stuff, Ketch. I did some digital signage stuff like this for 1080 x 1920 marquees on the exterior of a lounge franchise a couple years ago. One of them is on Citywalk at Universal. RED footage is perfect for this application. I actually had a bitch of a time trying to explain the idea to the execs surrounding the deal. Haha. But of course, they loved it.

Thanks for sharing as much as you do. Inspiring. I found a slider solution that I had been looking for in one of your threads, so needless to say, I'm starting to look a little more closely at your threads. ;)

Ha ha, too funny, we all got it wrong.. ;)

When traveling light I use the Arca-Swiss monoball Ballhead, this one used for this shot can handle 50LB.

Interesting
Thanks K.

Thanks Eryc,

yea people don't always understand so easy what we envision till they are showed... ;)

Glad you found your solution, glad to help and thanks for following.

Interesting
Thanks K.

Just remember that one of the main reason I am so happy of the R90 is that using any kind of Ballhead, the main issue is always proper balance and leveling the horizontal axis while in portrait mode on the side of the Ballhead.

Ketch when this came out I thought of you. The R90 should have an engraving with your smiling face on it. :)

Ha ha, yea ask Jarred, I know that when they first showed to me at Red Hollywood Studios, they were carefully looking at me one my way out insuring I didn't take the prototype with me, especially after insisting that they should sale it to me right there and then... ;)

hahaha. I am surprised you didn't have a hand in it's design. Then it would be called the R90i.

Very nice... ;)

The R90 is yet an other solid piece of gear form RED, love it, and now our Portrait Epic gallery begins... ;) Oh, this thing is built SOLID!!

Can't say how much I love the R90, such a solid and beautiful piece of gear... Stay tuned for some serious Portrait work... Sorry the girl, I'll show next time.. ;)
