  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The Power of Women's Tennis

Well... I guess that's a pretty good use of high speed...

Nice....

Abel was proud to provide the new Phantom Flex to the New York Times for this shoot. While the camera's full incredibly high frame rate capabilities were not fully utilized for this production, the amazing 1000 ISO sensitivity made shooting the athletes far more comfortable.

Beautiful shots, even so I disagree with some of the framing and focusing choices made, but beautiful nonetheless, and the new FLEX is really a monster of a camera, and have been making some serious considerations on Buying one to take bak to Italy, as I think will play beautifully together with my Epic-X camera footage, in my first Movie.

Will see.. so much stuff to buy..so many decision..so little money ha ha..at list for now ;)

When I watched Victoria Azarenka I could not stop looking at the highlights on her arms.
Its a blue halo, not CA but like a blue version of CA. What is that?
If its normally treated as undesirable, I thought it worked for this piece.

I agree with ketch, some of the framing, cuts and creative focus choices were distracting.
I totally understand too that some of these selects and edits may have happened outside the cinematographers field of control.

I believe that is an artifact of the internet streaming video compression. There's some other artifacting off the website feed that is also not in the original material.

Mitch, what frame rates were used ?

A variety were tried during the shoot and I'm not sure which they picked. I also don't know what playback speed they are using. The finished clips look to be around 600-1000 fps with a 60p playback. If so, then the same footage would appear 2.5x slower just by going to a 24p playback. And the Flex can shoot in excess of 2500fps at 1920x1080.

Wow! I think that this must transform high frame rate capture, and open up so many more shooting options, due to the lowered lighting requirement.

In addition to a personal comfort level, it means that some subject can now be captured that were impossible before. Macro high speed cinematography of small insects are no longer in danger of literally cooking the little creatures. Food no longer wilts and shrivels when one tries to shoot glossy tabletop imagery. And so on.

Each and every one of them was shot in a way that ignores their particular body type and unique points of interest, i.e: Serena's powerful torso, Dementieva's amazing legs, Zvonareva's sinewy mid section, are all absent, while Azarenka, the slimmest and least built of the bunch is shown full body. Framing and composition is also a bit off, but a nice piece nevertheless. What lens mount does the Flex come with, PL or 2/3"?

Standard mount is PL, but others available.
