Ok, let's just go hog wild on this one. Let's say that our company has no budget limitations and is wanting to build the most extensive and complete camera package imaginable(for RED). Include anything and everything outside of the RED store and anything that you would suggest as a better alternative to any of the RED accessories. For any shot, any setup, any genre of shooting, any special camera trick(minus those that you DP's want to keep secret of course) and anything that could possibly attach to or add to the integrity of an extraordinary camera package. Include anything that doesn't even necessarily attach to the camera and anything within 10 meters of the camera department on set or in the studio. If possible, please try to include any prices, links, prototypes and future products.

I realize that there would be a good amount of research involved for one person and/or one reply, so feel free to add any one thing or anything you feel would be a great addition.

Go Nuts!

How about you go nuts searching/digging/reading/spending time in the forums here? You will find your answers.

If you find yourself in the position to "get it all", one could assume you should already know what you need outside of the RED store.

You Crack Me up.

Hey guys, it's not a matter of being lazy. I want to hear peoples opinions that might know a little more than me. I have been happily in the business for about 6 years but still have a lot to learn. Any help and advice would be appreciated not alienation. Thanks.

By the way, BigLu, I am working with RED #423, your younger brother, hope he's doing well.

Tannerstraus - I wasn't trying to be an ass. I just felt it was easier for you to do the research than it was to write the lengthy response. I meant no offense.

No offense taken what so ever. Trust me. I understand that it is a lot to write for one person. If there is something that comes to mind that would be good to add, post away. Ya'll don't have to give me everything at once, just thought that through everyone's experience combined here on reduser we can build a good list, not just for me, but for anyone who might be interested.

Cheers.

dito - no offence intended. it was more of a ball back in Shawn's court as to a post he literally did minutes before yours.

when i frst joined this forum i spent a loooooooottttt of time trolling through posts and getting a lot of info and still do. there are big developments happening with the camera and the software and the posts are coming thick and fast.........so keep reading.

The thing is, there is no singular perfect camera package. The perfect camera package is the one that does exactly what the production in question needs it to - nothing more, nothing less. Nobody wants to pay for more than they need, nor do they want to have to compensate for things they need but don't have.

I'm not surprised the original post set off a few sharp tongued replies. It's a somewhat silly question. Sure, we'd all love to have unlimited funds so we can purchase Panavision, but how practical is that? Remember also a camera package has to do with the camera - not cranes, not dollies, not lights, or audio gear. The original post is essentially describing a rental house's equipment sheet. There's your list.

Points well taken. The question was more theoretical than literal. I don't intend on buying everything possible, I just want to know what my options would be. I realize that searching the forums is a great tool, which I do constantly, but on the other side, I don't know how to research things that I don't know exist. I don't think it's a silly question, this thread is here to possibly combine a lot of information that may be otherwise hard to find searching with certain keywords and such. I'll take my losses on this one and let it go. Thanks for everyone's input, seriously.

A warehouse the size of the Port of Los Angeles with an inventory of Keslow Camera, the Camera House, Panavision, Clairmont and Band Pro's entire inventory on the camera side. On the lighting side you'd want 10 of each light made from Kino, Litepanels, Mole Richardson, Arri, Friese, Beebee, FinLight, Lee Spacelights, Lightning Stikes, Soft Suns, ETC, K5600 and anything I forgot plus generators and cable to power it all and DMX dimmers and boards to run all of it through. I won't go into Grip you get the idea.

Kidding aside: Every job has its own unique ideal package and it's the D.P.'s job to weed out what that is and make it fit into the budget available. Your asking for a holy grail that does not exist.

Alright, here's quick thoughts:

Cooke RED lens set + RED's Prime set
Actioncam
Optimo 12:1
5 more RED packages like the one I have...
water housing

camera truck
10 ton grip truck fully loaded
10 ton lighting truck fully loaded
sound stage
$30 mil in the company account

KIT:
O'Connor 2060 head and sticks/babies, Origo Start/Stop, Imperio/Inclino focus gear (for Steadicam/Actioncam/Jib/Crane/Housing uses), cases for all of your gear -

AC Kit = pancro, blower, sensor cleaning kit, velcro, allen set (of some kind), tape measure, ear plugs, USB lens light, tape loop (with tape), blank paperwork and 3-ring binder, white out, knife, Gerber/Leatherman, flashlight with spare bulbs and batteries, AC belt with accessories, camera bag (like Cinebag), Altoids, lighter/waterproof matches, insert slate.....

chip/focus charts...

space blankets - red and blue (A/B cams)... [most of this is AC stuff but not everyone is aware of it]

$20 hidden somewhere in your kit for you never know what....

Blue and greenscreen filters. (Luxury items)

Some sort of breakout box (ET or Toys4Red) and the ET EVF mount...

List of available back ups for everything you can think of....

Decent playlist on your iPhone/iPod, supply of good jokes:
Why was the dolly invented?
Why don't DP's smoke?
How many (BLANK) does it take to change a lightbulb? series of jokes -

Thick skin. Patience.

lol, thanks man. Those would be ideal for that mattebox. Any idea if any of those lenses will mount to my RED though? Maybe I need a Red Rock, lol.

Yes, they will all mount with no problem. Sigma can mount through either Nikon or Canon mount. The 5.7m Canon lens, I believe, has ...well Canon mount. And, the 1.7m f/4.0 Zeiss lens is custom made, so you can have whatever mount you wish. Mount is the least of your worries with this glass. :greedy:

I don't think I would have survived the last few years on set without any of these.
But I would also add an extra 2 pairs of socks...especially as an AC :)

I would like to hear the punchline to these jokes. I've heard the lightbulb one before, but I forgot the punchline.
