Leica R 28-90 - this will wipe the floor with any other still zoom period. They are expensive, but I found a good price on one, and if I had to do it all over again, I would buy another - even if I had to pay Ebay prices (which I did not).

Sevi - that lens is the TESLA of the zooms. I used to own two sets of VP's (Variable Primes) for my Varicams (via Angenieux adapter) back in the day - and they were my fav lenses...

I would say the Canon 16-35 L and later on I would pick up the Canon 70-200 L ISll... The 24-70 is a very nice lens but keep in mind if you're using a matte box that lens is going to be a problem because it's a telescoping lens.
