  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The Ninja a portable HDMI LCD Hard Disk ProRes Recorder

Here's a perfect example of how or why to use external recording devices. This is an excerpt from the B&H website about the NEW sony PMW-F3L Super 35mm Full-HD Compact Camcorder. SITE: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...&AID=10655283&PID=3515632&is=REG&A=details&Q=

Under the specifications Sony states the following:

the PMW-F3 records natively to professional SxS media, using the MPEG-2 long GOP codec in an 8-bit 4:2:0 color space. More demanding applications can utilize the camera's dual-link HD-SDI ports to output to an external recorder in 10-bit 4:2:2 or 10-bit RGB (with upgrade).

This is now the case for a lot of prosumer cameras like the Sony Ex1 and 3 and the Panasonics in the same field with HD-SDI out or possibly HDMI out....i only know of those with hdsdi out.

I think all of the HDSLRs HDMI outputs will have some sort of character output burned in the image. On my 7D, I can turn all of the display info off, but there's still a white box in the center 1/5th of the frame. Won't do much for current DSLR-R's, I'm afraid.

AF100 might benefit, though.

Guys, that are involved in Magic Lantern project do pretty amazing stuff. I wouldn't bet against them.

So if I wanted to bi pass shoot raw on the RED one to go straight to this Ninja what else am I going to loose? I will I sacrifice metadata , time codes, etc? Will I just get the Mov file and nothing else? Im guessing I not going to be able to shoot Raw to a red drive + pro res onto this device ? Anyone ?

Yes, Ninja is shipping and I've got email last week...

Now we are all waiting for a solid written review...
