Looks very very promising at wide open 1.4. Looks like very little CA, great contrast and sharpness. Is anyone thinking about purchasing this or should I be the guinea pig? I'm loving the all metal lens build and the USB firmware updates.

If you are planning to use it with the smart mount beware.
I love the Sigmas optical performance and the lens line up. Great materials and finish. Their electronics however are crap.
The motors, the encoders make it unusable for motion work.
Hopefully this new lens improved upon the electronics as well.

Sigma I believe are re-branding the entire company to showcase some more premium products. From what it looks like, if they're coming close to Zeiss glass in terms of fit and finish and above Canon for general IQ, I hope they have beefed up everything else.

As you said Jacek, not too sure if this would work with the RED Canon mount. Hopefully someone can pop on over to BH and test it out. $899 for a lens of this quality is an absolute steal. Just need to test breathing and compatibility to see if it's RED friendly.

Has anybody had a chance to test this lens yet with the Canon mount? Just curious if autofocus works.

Is it just one lens or a set coming?

Sigma have been notoriously inconsistent in their line up, were one lens was good and then one was absolutely unusable, this is what kept away even the ones that wanted to spend less money then buying Canon, but all learned that you simply can't rely on Sigma.

Then again, if you buy several lenses of the same Focal, and then return all those that don't match your expectations, Sigma could be a great buy.

It would be about time that they did something about coming out with a series of better product, but if price gets close to Canon "L" series then all bets are out, as I don't know anyone would at same price range even bother to go and try the Sigma rout.

Nice images btw, Shervin... ;)

Autofocus does not work!

That's a shame. I wonder if the USB port can be used to help the situation ? I think it allows some tweaking .

Sigma is taking a different tack on this line up. Perhaps a new page for them. The tests of the 35mm look very very good. Like really sharp full open. Edges as well.

So the auto focus does nothing at all ?

What I don't understand is how I can take a new lens like this and put it on an old Canon DSLR and it works. Put it on the Red and it does not ?
Why ?

The optical quality of this lens blows the Canon version out of the water. Huge difference in testing numbers.
However, I have their 50/1.4 and it is also great optically, but the motor quit on me and the cost of repair would be half the price of a new one.

I ordered one and will see for myself.
I'm surprised that there isn't more interest in this Sigma, but that is probably because it says 'Sigma' instead of 'Gucci' or something ;)
At f1.4 it seems to have the same sharpness and contrast as the Ziess 35 1.4, at $1000 less money.

Update: I received the lens today, and did some quick testing.
For me the focus works as good as any of my other lenses. There does seem to be a problem when LCD is zoomed in and using the new focus method. Otherwise the focus is very accurate. In fact more accurate than my Canon lenses.
This lens is very sharp even wide open. Finally a lens I can use wide-open without excuses. Thank you Sigma.

How's the breathing and the focus throw Les? Also, does the lens have more of a Canon warm look to it? or does it render neutral punchy colours like Zeiss ZF/ZE's?

Les can you post a wide open r3d?

Also, are there any plans to release other new 1.4 sigmas? 24, 35, 50, 85... I was looking at the Rokinon Cines but I've been told the 24 wide open doesn't hold up to the others (thanks for the heads up Shervin).
