  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The NEW Finish

Hey kowboy, where did you get the pelican case from? Thanks for sharing..

Can't seem to find them on the red.com Store... can you point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

Orders for the Pelican RED branded costume fitted case is $600 and you can ordered directly from RED, e-mail your sale REP. or call him.

As for all the accessories only those that have taken delivery of their camera can order for direct delivery, all others are deposit only.

Ciao

Like Ketch said - You have to ask for it through your sales rep. Also, they're in limited supply. I wasn't expecting mine to ship with everything BUT damn! I sure was happy when I saw it!

It's the perfect case (in my opinion) for this camera. It is $600 and my only complaint is that it only holds one battery and no drives... well, I can rearrange things to do that though.

IT RULES!

Hi kowboy,

Can you post a pic of the two top mounts?

Do you think they are strong enough to hold a camera with lens etc with no problems?

These top mounts are the only accessories I will go for manufactured by RED.

I'm waiting for a second top mount now, so I really can't comment at this time.

Sorry!

I meant the two top handles, not mounts (the handle and the handle extension). My bad.

Are they strong enough?

Thanks.

They're totally strong enough.

You might want to reconsider ordering more things from RED. Seriously.
This stuff is made for this camera - it's wonderful.

Like the cradle? Side handles? LCD? ETC ETC ETC...

Believe me. You want more than just handles. Besides, you need a top mount to mount the handle and then another one to mount the ext.

Top mount is strong enough if you have two of them and two 6” rods going through them. If you mount only one top mount and you screw handle in to it then the bending force of the handle is too much for the mount to withstand. Top mount is very thin in the place where the screws are, will bend out and break off if you shake the camera with the lenses on it.

Didn’t try to shake it though but you will know what I mean once you screw one on top of the camera and you will try to lift it up.

You need washers everywhere if you want to thigh the screws hard and not to scratch the surfaces. RED is not shipping washers in the bolt sets.

So, I played around with the case last night and figured these out:

Now I can carry 5 batteries, one is in the cradle. Cables are better distributed throughout and I managed to place 2 LCD cables with the 2 LCDs. I use the top mount slots in the case for various cables and tools since top mounts can remain attached to the body while in the case.

Now I just need to get Pelicans for the 300mm, the chargers/cables/extra battery, and one for the hard drives. Anyone know proper suggestions?

What's the weight of that thing with everything in there. Can you seriously carry it over a distance of - say 1000 feet - without taking a break?

Honestly, I wouldn't carry it at all unless necessary, like lifting it. It has wheels and a retractable handle (like a suitcase) so you can wheel it around and over the 1000 yards.
Obviously, you can't wheel it over every surface. I'm going to North Shore today and you won't see me wheeling the case through sand. I will build the camera and then carry IT to the location with sticks.

My entire package fits within 5 Pelicans, standards/babies in their cases each and then my head (anyone have/know where to get an ATA case for it). The RED Pelican is worth every dime.

And I don't know what it weighs fully loaded.

Great news Kowboy, I've just started a podcast about all things RED and episode 2 this week was going to feature the production finish issues but i'm SO happy now that instead it gets to be a GOOD Story instead of a bad one. Pity about the backorder situation but WELL DONE RED for sorting this out, restored my faith in them as i was PRETTY surprised the matte finish was going out the door in the first place.

cheers
