Here is the debut video for Emily Paige - "The New Cleopatra". It's a very Disney-esque pop song and video. There are a things with the composting that I'm not 100% happy with but I learned along the way and I think it turned out pretty good. It's gotten a lot of good reviews so far and the clients are happy so I'm happy. Shot on RED ONE M.

Looks like this got a good amount of views, but no comments? Let me know what you think. Thanks!

Greenscreen comps are pretty poor looking. Learn more about how to do this. Read the manual.

Some cute ideas.

Actors look undirected. Take 46 acting workshops (That's how many I have been to).

You also need to learn more about shot planning. This video looks like you have some ability, but lack knowledge. That's a waste.

This is not to discourage you, but rather to encourage you to work harder and learn more.

i enjoyed it Nice work!!
Thanks!

I agree with you on the green screen. A lot went wrong on set with that IMO and I had to work with what I had. As far as the actors are concerned, they're not really actors, just her friends. I don't know if that has any bearing on my directing ability, but maybe. Thank you for your compliments and suggestions. I have a Bachelors degree and have been working in the field full time for the past 3 or for years, but I'm learning something new every day still. I always appreciate learning new things, constructive criticism, and encouragement. The key is to never stop learning new things. :)

Hi Robert,

It was tough to sit through 12 minutes of this. The green screen shots needed better feathering and comping in general, in fact some of the shots didn't even need to be in there. The video was 8 minutes too long. You could have chopped off most of the museum scene at the beginning to get to the song faster. It would have hid the poor acting and made the video move more smooth. The lighting was flat, no variation in color. I maybe would have had some sort of backlight, separating the talent from the background, and put some orange or gold gel on the light...make her shine!

The camera work and blocking of actors were mediocre, unfortunately. There's a bunch of great books out there for directing actors for camera. I recommend purchasing a book called Shot by Shot. One of the most informative books I read when I was in school.

These are just my opinions and I hope you take it lightly. I've been directing music videos for the past 4 years and they can only improve over time. The more you work, the better they'll become!

And I thought you were talking about the Angelina Jolie Cleopatra...

Thanks for your feedback, Justin! Although I do not necassarly agree with all of your opinion, I do respect it. I guess you can't please everyone, we we're going for a short film for kids/teens that serves as a video for this particular song. I feel like we did a decent job of achieving our goal with what we had to work with. But I defiantly will listen to everyone's constructive criticisms, as I am smart enough to know that if I work on the areas that my peers feel this video is lacking in, it will only help me make better work moving forward.

I wish. Sorry for getting your hopes up, lol.
