  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The most revolutionary camera ever made

Yup.

And despite the crappy compression, sensitivity, DR...etc....toy which has a fantastic promo video nonetheless.

That I'm sure was worked in a major Hollywood post house to get it that clean

I can't for the life of me understand why people think the video quality of the Go-Pro is so great. To my eye, the original camera looks like standard-def in a 1080P container. The new one looks slightly better but neither can hold a candle to something like the Sony HX9V - when they can get that kind of quality or better - then they'll be talking!

GoPro opens so much possibilities that were not possible before and the quality is outstanding for its size. This camera changed the world of sports and film making forever.

Sure, Go pro has made it easier for amateurs and pros alike, but given historical context I wouldn't give it the award.
I'd say the pulnix cctv industrial range wins the award for minicams. These were chopped up and put in cricket stumps and in racing cars a long time ago. UK tech whizz David Earl brought them to the publics attention and started using the pulnix for F1 cars in the eighties, I shot a doc about him and then pioneered using them myself for docs and drama recreation, including on a dogs nose, in a hat on a pole connected to skiers back, on long poles (the first pole cam) on poles underwater, on a pianists hand, even in an oyster that was opened on live TV.

GoPro is more versatile but the revolution itself started a long time ago.

I shot a glidging doc with them in Chile when they first came out. It was sharper than a Canon D5 with a wide lens. Codex falls over when there is a lot of motion.
