Most interesting. Thanks Rand. Personally I have a deeper interest in lenses than this. Got any recommended articles or videos for people who want to know more about optics, but who aren't engineers or optical designers?

I've been playing with lenses here and there, and now and then I find something somewhat interesting. E.g. Micro 4/3 lens on an APS-C sensor; or mounting a lens with a long FFD on a mirrorless body, compensating with close focus filters (I call this short-mounting, which has the opposite effect of using extension tubes). If nothing else, it's fun stuff.

That was interesting. Some of those old Speed Panchros are as small as rangefinder lenses. Someone in the comments of the video mentioned Pentax SLR lenses. As I understand it, they have most of the characterstics of cinema lenses but at a fraction of the cost. The housing is the only problem. That, and the problem of finding a super-wide. The widest vintage M42 lens I know of that's not a fisheye is the Sigma 18/2.8.

Karim,

I remember a while back of a couple of other low cost lenses having some lens heritage with some of the higher caliber Classic/ modern Cinema lenses. I think I remember the Zeiss ZF 100mm f2 Makro-Planar either having the lens design or possessing some of the same lens elements as the Master Prime Lenses.
