Hi All

I found this on a Martain BTS video and noticed they are shooting 5K but seem to have 2.35:1 frame guides - am I right in thinking these guides are for 2.35:1 @ 5K ? If so what are the pixel values for those guides ?

Thanks !

They shot Dragon, according to Dariusz Wolski in American Cinematographer (NOV 2015).

He also says they shot 6K. Maybe on some wides they dropped to 5K? They were using Super 35 zooms, so could see 6K coverage being an issue sometimes.

When adding frame guides to a shooting resolution you can set what % its set at compared to the shooting resolution. I'm not sure what % they have it set at. For example from the photo you added they shot in 5k and did a 2.4:1 frame guide at probably 90% so that its got some room around it for re-framing and/or stabilization.

I used both 5K FF on the Scarlet Dragon and 6K FF on the Epic. Used the 2.4:1 framelines. They didn't seem to care too much what resolution was used, as long as it was minimum 5K. They wanted 5:1 compression.
