  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

the look of Melancholia

"then i'm pretty sure you know what you're doing when you stick with 2900K bulbs."

But I'm not sure that's true. If he clipped color channels on the sensor thus degrading the image, that is what I'm talking about. You can read all sorts of other irrelevancies into my observation, but it looked like shit to me.

If he had shot film, it probably wouldn't have been an issue, but this was a current gen. CMOS sensor. And it is. I have a lot of minor issues with CMOS sensors in various situations, and this is apparently one of them. I thought all the interiors looked absolutely terrible, and I was disappointed it got through to a finished product.

As for the movie, the kid was little more than a prop (literally in the end sequence being carried around). The science was blatantly silly (a gas giant supposedly orbiting around the earth instead of vice versa). But, the movie was okay with points for effort. While it could have been a masterpiece.

I watched this in cinemas and own it on Bluray...I thought it looked goregous personally. I kind of understand what you mean about the shallow DOF but when I watch it on my calibrated 50" plasma I don't really see anything displeasing or clipped. I thought the DP did a stunning job. Yeah the party lighting veered more towards yellow than typical tungsten orange but it didn't bother me. That "sickly yellow" you speak of...I found a lot of it in The girlfriend experience, haywire and contagion...but it also suited those movies.
