  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The List - Please maintain

all i'm hoping for is an update at this point.

As much as I would love to have a scarlet to record my little girl opening her presents at 4k I think I will just have to suffice with the good ole VHS Camera....89 style!

The "no news is good news" comments are absolute nonsense. For a company that loves to gloat, I find the lack of information is quite telling.

you guys gotta chill. patience... seriously.

the anxiety and negativity really doesn't help anyone. find something to do, like... enjoy your holidays, and you'll be much happier when you get your camera.

By the way I noticed something a little interesting on the list. Someone was allocated on the 13th and is physically picking it up on the 23rd. That means even if you had overnight shipping it wouldn't have come until the 24th. That means a 10 day about lead time from allocation to delivery. So seeing as non-event, non-press Al mounts aren't going out... now. It's already past Christmas. And since I hope RED isn't working their elves Christmas Eve/Christmas. Realistically we're 5 days out from New Years too.

Or, maybe 200 AL scarlets will go out tomorrow. :D

That's me...

I'm flying to L.A. from Toronto to pick it up. There was no way it would get to us before we leave on a shoot Boxing Day (Dec 26 for our American cousins) that will be 2 weeks in Japan, then we hit other production pretty hard when we return to T.O.

Before everyone jumps on me about relying on an untested cam for production - I'll be brining it to the shoot in Japan, but it won't be the primary camera. It'll be a time where I can play with it on my days off and test it out while shoot Japanese YouTube cat videos in glorious 4K!

At this point all I want to know is, if we ordered in the first hour if we'll still see our Scarlet before Christmas?

The problem with this and Jarred comments of being "pretty likely" to get a scarlet before christmas if you ordered in the first hour is that I don't think many actually got an order in online in that first hour. By the list 4 people managed too. All this sadness is making me want to put a deposit on an epic.

I'm very confused...some non events have it, events don't...

I get the whole 'feed the press' kind of thing but didn't event go-ers deserve it even before the press? Which then leads to the non event orders for al that have gone out or going out who aren't press...

Anyway its just confusing how the stuff is going out but as long as its going out thats a good thing right? The thing is though, people speculated mount being the problem but if 2 Als in the last week went out, Cinema5D and Glen's...it can't be an issue...

AAAHHH!!! That backorder update can't come soon enough...

The machines are rocking....

I'm a little confused on that as well. I mean I'm very happy and excited for those getting there cameras but I thought it was stated event goers then by timestamp... if going by that, in that instance it didn't follow it. I'm happy to see more reviews and read more on it but I guess the shipment is more random than we thought. It would be reassuring to hear something more than "I can't make an estimate at this time".

all i'm hoping for is an update at this point.

I had heard that they were going to give an update at some point this week.. it's Friday.. does anybody know where Jarred or whoever said this?

I hope Jarred is teasing us with those mount pics....Two things

1.Box doesn't state Al or Ti
2.Why does it say EPIC?

I just booked two more gigs for January, a two week shoot in NYC and then a week in Boston. From the looks of it we're going Alexa, all these jobs could be Scarlet-X. I'm pretty disappointed, these cameras need to get into our hands! I'm not gonna lie to my producers when my camera is coming in, I stop telling people. Seriously whats the point in getting Directors and Producers excited...."So when is you camera coming?" It got old quick.

I'd hate to rack up over 10 gigs that could have been on my Scarlet-X, 3 gigs down who knows how many more to go.

Said it in the backorder thread

Ill try and give you guys another major backorder update at the end of this week... too many balls in the air right now to give anything accurate.

Those are TI Mounts and it doesn't make a difference if they say EPIC or Scarlet...I think eventually it'll say RED DSMC

If the mounting points on the EPIC and Scarlet for the mounts themselves were different someone would've said something by now I'm sure, not to mention they are same height and width, just one has ribs and the other doesn't so technically the mount should be able to fit on either body, its just the boxing that may confuse some...

It's like the bottom for the Scarlet that attaches to the quick release gear didn't say Scarlet and said EPIC, now it says 'RED' http://www.red.com/store/rail-components/product/mounting-plate-epic-2

Always better to not say anything about this stuff since your right, it gets old...I remember I was excited in 2009, then 2010...now 2011 I'm still excited but its hard to say 'I'm getting my EPIC' or 'I'm getting Scarlet'...

It's just easier to say 'I have it!' when its in hands of course...

who knows, everything could still be in the "air". why do i have a feeling it's gonna be at like 2 am when the Dec. BO Thread goes up

I know it's the same mount, those boxes must be old or something, it's just kinda weird.

Is this a rumor but I thought I read that the Al mounts were being outsourced?

Been there, people say why would you book a shoot without a camera, which isn't the case. It's that it's missing jobs and being replaced with the delay. It's a bummer hearing, can you bring your camera, or can you use your camera for this job, since it's known I placed an order and having to say, I have no idea whats going on.

Most probably old, the Ti Mount orders were pre-nov 3rd so they must've ordered tons of boxes and still going through that batch of boxes before they get to the ones with the name change

I doubt the Al mounts are out sourced...wouldn't that mean potentially faster production of those mounts? I mean if you were going to outsource something you would do it because it would increase the speed of them being made surely? Considering REDs construction isn't a problem its the speed of construction (which is getting better)...

So I doubt but its possible...just that if it were out sourced...they would be sitting on so many Al mounts that they would be struggling to make the Scarlets in time to keep up with the amount of Al's coming in...if the Al mount being made are slow and RED could make them faster they wouldnt even outsource it then...

But like all things, anything is possible

Those are almost undoubtedly Ti mounts since RED doesn't have a standalone Aluminum SKU. If they were aluminum they would be on scarlets not in boxes. ;)

My impression is that both the Al and Ti mounts are probably on the same machines. RED probably decided to catch up on their 5 month old back-orders for Ti mounts lest they have an uprising because of 2 month old customers like me getting Canon mounts ASAP. :D

This is probably more likely, they said customers at the event would get first batch. I am sure someone was like like hey...wait a minute...what about all of us Epic owners who ordered Ti mounts months before....and so it was decided to pump out the Ti batch first rather than work out the Al mounts. It seems fair. Do I like it...no cause its a delay in my order, but you have to respect those that were before us. Hence since they have a bunch of PL mounts might as well ship those with the scarlet.

that's IF the Canon Mounts are the hold up of course. Wouldn't the PL have gone out faster?

seems like everyone is getting their Ti Canon mounts, which is awesome, that was a long wait I bet.

something tells me mounts ain't the hold up

I also find the "pretty likely" comment telling. Assuming they took 100 orders in that first hour that's a delivery rate of what, several a day? Even if they were shipping 20 each day, which seems optimistic, it will be MONTHS before many of us see a camera. My order is 3686 (placed a week after announcement). That's at least a five month wait at 20/day. If one ordered today that could be, ugh, a wait of 8 months? A year?

I should have ordered two.. One to keep and one to re-sell at a tidy profit to someone who will pay not to wait so long! UGH!
