  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The journey...

back on page 1 of this thread there is a mention of the impact that the RED has made in on the filmmaking insdustry in Vietnam - I can amplify that message a bit, as on my last trip over to Asia - I learned that the #1 box office movie of all time in Vietnam was shot on the RED ONE - this is not the #1 movie shot on a digital movie camera, or the #1 movie of the last 10 years, but the #1 movie - of.. all... time... in Vietnam. Pretty fantastic.

In my travels, I learn all about countries that are shooting so much RED that it's hard to really grasp it - these are places that do not have the budgets that hollywood does to make movies, and now they finally have a no-compromise tool to realize their vision.

We at RED are all very proud of what's been accomplished worldwide with our camera in it's young life... and we are just getting started!

Congrats guys, you've made a hell of a tool and turned a general approach to filmmaking on its head. Just glad I could be a part of it. Cheers

Hi Ted!!!

Yeah, I worked that project and will be teaming up to do another one with the same director in a couple months.

This was the #1 of all time in Vietnam. Kinda like the harry potter success but in Vietnam.

Yes

Yes

I'm really looking forward to no longer watching from the sidelines, and being able to own a RED product myself. I just have to wait for the Scarlet models because that should be about perfect timing for me.

Since I heard about RED in early 2007, I've been really a big fan and followed every detail I could, had a few REDs on pre-order, then realized it was just the wrong timing business-wise even though as a filmmaker / artist I wanted that camera so bad. But alas, soon enough and I will hold a true professional RED camera in my hands, hehe.

Pretty Amazing. Great to see all those movie posters in the theater in Vietnam! I was just in Poland for a Premiere of a RED movie, a comedy called "Phenomenon", and had the same type of experience - seeing all the buzz and excitement about the movie, with all the cast and crew there, was fantastic.

The movie AntiChrist was screened at both the Cannes film fest and the Edinburgh film fest, a very controversial movie shot on RED by Anthony Dod Mantle

http://www.edfilmfest.org.uk/news/2009/06/antichrist-added

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/film-reviews/film-review-antichrist-1003973946.story

I was in Edinburgh for the festival, and it was all everybody was talking about there, about the absolutely stunning imagery from the RED ONE that Anthony created, and the intensely controversial subject matter and graphic visuals.

The major theatrical releases, District 9, Beyond a Reasonable Doubt, The Informant! and Gamer are all coming out soon - part of the first wave of RED shot movies now hitting theaters worldwide.

And if all goes to plan, next week, we will be screening one of the very first movies to be shot on the RED, "The Nothing Men" at our community day during the very first REDucation classes next week (the case study about it is on the red.com website)

http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=32332

So if you find yourself in LA next week, come to the screening and the other festivities on the 23rd if you can.

I've always believed that certain people have that "magical touch"; everything they do/like/make is just GOOD and is something we desire. I think there is very few of these people in the world... and Jim is definitely one of them.

I'm young and have grown up in the digital world... yet it bugs me how most digital pictures/cameras/shots never look as good as film. It bugs me a lot. I know "digital" is a "different" look than film, but quite frankly I think it's just worse. Then I saw the Red footage... finally someone hit the nail... it all seems so simple but we know the Red team works damn hard!

Well, I'm in the for the Scarlet... I'm sold.

You have always been here with us (in Finner's signature)

HAHA, oh Finner... what an honor ;)

Well I made the business decision not to get the two RED Ones I had on order, which was smart I think business-wise but the kid in me was really bummed because that is the coolest gadget a filmmaker could want. It just wasn't the right time. It's the right time now I think, at least coming up on it.

There's one thing that is missing from Jim's list --all the people. This forum already with all the useful and less useful information is quite amazing, but especially, I'm impressed of the Red staff and their sincere help.

Just recently I went to shoot bears, wolves and wolverines into a hide for several days next to the Russian border in the middle of nowhere. Once got there and set camera on, discovered that the cord of the battery plate was broken. Sent immediately a message from my phone to Brent and Kelly. They replied in half an hour and in two days FedEx called me saying they have a package for me. (Thank you Kelly!)

A still photographer colleague who was with me was pretty amazed of the speed of getting equipment sent from CA to Europe. He said that it would be already very difficult to get spare parts for his camera in two days within EU or even within this country. Even better, once came back and asked Brent about repairing the old battery clip, got all instructions within an hour and he also kindly informed me the battery plate was covered by the warranty that I wasn't at allaware of. (Brent, thanks!)

You have no idea the impact RED has made in the film industry in Vietnam. There will be quite a few Shot On Red features hitting theaters between Dec 09 to Feb 2010. It's been amazing being part of the ride. Thanks Jim!

Hello Jim,

This is just to let you know how gratefull we are for the Red digital camera you have produced. Thank you so very much to everyone, that helped realizing this wonderfull Red One camera. - Without the Red One we would have difficulty in documenting our journey, both in tv and in cinema quality. It would simply have been too costly. - Carsten

We can't wait to see the EPIC and Scarlet cameras in operation! It feels great to be together with the Red company and joining your vision for the future. The Red company is indeed a unique company and a ideal to follow. - Martin

A little word about the RPP set & the other lenses as well. For us very valuable when one compare to Zeiss, Cooke etc. - We feel that you are leading us into a new film era !
There is only left to say that we will follow & support you all the way - count on that - Frank !

Red One #4167

I want those sunglasses. Definitely will be adding those to my x-mas list, haha. I have about 8 pairs of Oakley's currently, all but 2 are of the metal variety, so I like my sunglasses quality and stylish. Those are... amazing...
