  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The industry has finally engaged...

I love this stuff. So much. Apparently we have finally got the attention of "the big guys". Now the real fun begins. And the customer wins.

Upgrades. Prices that consumers can swallow. Japan, China and Germany vs. the USA. Love it.

We fully recognize that we are the underdogs in this fight. Just the way we want it.

Pick your partner wisely.

Jim

i thought about that three years ago, and i made my decision when i thought about that the first time...
:-)
yeah, and now i'm very happy, that the wait is over in a few days !!!

What is actually going on ???

The RED ONE has been important for over 4 years. That is a long time in the world we live in. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was shot mostly on a RED ONE MX. The RED ONE MX shoots and intercuts perfectly with EPIC footage.

We love the RED ONE. But while it probably doesn't have a new sale life left... it is valuable. How many 4 year old digital cameras can say that?

Jim

Not all of us has the RED ONE over 4 years. My RED ONE MX is 13 month old and was 11 month without a EVF. No Trade-In possibility, no upgrade and now there will be no discounts for RED ONE owners.
The fight against ARRI on the market is hard enough, but I love RED and think it is worth. So what can this new RED ONE MX owner expect.

What is with the statements for new RED ONE MX owner:
There good news is that everything is upgradeable...
If you invest in RED, you are investing in a philosophy. This philosophy was RED's from the beginning. Take care of the customer
Since we will always believe in the core concept of upgrade instead of "buy it new all over again", I think our customers will always have an advantage over those that invest in other systems.

I hope we will not forget, because I believe in Red

The no discount is for Scarlet.

Brother IMHO the Red One is still Dope!
Your Blessed if you have one!
I don't know why people act like its not still currently a solid product, other than Red Epic, nothing else produces 3.5K images.

I guess this might be what Jim is referring to? Or maybe he has more accurate inside info. Looking forward to the 3rd it is a good time to be in the market for a new camera. All the competition is healthy.

BTW I shot "January" my 1st feature as a director on the RED one MX and was very happy with the way it preformed. I also work with other cameras, choice is a great thing!

If somebody was really objective and paying attention they would notice that it is just the evolution of an industry. We have gone from the VHS to 1080i on video and we got the marriage of film and progressive video. I saw the future of film in video all the way back in 1992 in one of Canon's new video cams of that era. Now we will be getting more sophisticated cameras from all the big companies. Eventually 4K and Raw from all the big names in the industry, that is for sure because that is what we saw in the stills digital cameras. That is an evolution of an industry. Plain and simple. Now the question remains: Will Scarlet really be the entry level camera that will afford the lower end of the market an entry way into the factory of dreams as promised? Or will it just be another expensive tool that that lower end of the market won't be able to afford in this really bad economy? I guess we will soon find out.

Now that Jim has outed Scarlet's resolution at 3k, at least that discussion will drop.

And people's minds have been further calibrated! Keep it coming and Nov 3rd will be a great evening!!

=)

You have to read between the lines to understand his statement (possibly, I could also be completely missing his point). He was referring directly to a comment to what the new Canon is rumored to have as resolution in an earlier post. It's rumored to capture 4k and record 2k. So the 2k is recording. So if 3k is Jim's point, then it's 3k recording, which would make it 4k capture, just like the Red One. Otherwise, if it was capturing 3k it would debayer lower, more like 2.5k

Shall I put you down for 4k capture then, sir?

Then we can both see how that works out for you? =)

I don't want to say that the RED ONE MX isn't a solid product. And I'm very happy to own one. It shoot wonderful picture. I love the RAW Workflow.

But on the other side: I get my EVF 2 month ago and after this the Production accept to use my camera. And the ALEXA market is very strong in TV Production.
Also this have nothing to do with my post, but I think new RED ONE MX owner should also get the possibility to stay in the RED boat.
The owner of RED ONE got the Trade-in and the upgrade to MX. The Epic owner will get the upgrade to the new Sensor when it will be ready.
Only the RED ONE MX customer between them get no possibility.
And I believe in the philosophy of RED as I bought one.

So don't misunderstand my post, I love my RED ONE MX.

Yes jim please hire a few more hands to get everything ready on the 1st and save the world hehe.
I'm sure some of us can provide some help.

I invested in a system back in 2007. It has been a wise decision indeed.

Thomas I think the problem is that there has to be a cut off at some point.

Otherwise I could buy a RED-MX today, shoot with it until I get my EPIC-X email then send it back with no fear of $ Loss.

The Trade-In Grace period was quite fair if I remember correctly.

I guess you bought after that........Sorry

I back up what Andrew says. There is no business sense for RED to sell a RED MX now only to let you upgrade for free when the EPIC becomes available for your serial.

The trade in was for those that bought RED at the very beginning and before a set date. After that date, the trade in was no long available - it was a reward for the early adopters.

RED has been very clear about the cut off date and when that closed. If they did allow you to buy a RED ONE MX now and trade that in, then I'd be buying yesterday, but alas that is not so.

I have waited for over 2 years for my EPIC, and I'll wait for as long as it takes RED to deliver my Stage 4. Why? Because its worth it...

Sounds like EPIC... lower your expectations. Really. Not close. This is what bugs me. And you get something like this from where?

Jim

Jim, we've been hearing about this camera for years. Expectations were set. And then...

Scarlet is going to blow you away.

Jim

Or this:
I'm expecting Nov. 3rd to be the biggest announcement in the history of RED.

Jim

There should be little confusion why people's heads start spinning...

Epic is the most bangin cam in the world. Nothing these other companies do in the next couple years is gonna come even close. And by then, you guys will be have maintained your awesome line and have moved on to other awesome products.
