  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The industry has finally engaged...

Thursday... the rubber meets the road. We don't know what they are doing and they don't know what we are doing. Exciting!

I'm still hoping for 2/3 fixed or interchangeable, but a lot of people are taking the latest posts as evidence that Scarlet will be s35. Maybe scarlet woo be something completely different like super16 or 4/3 sized chip. Personally, I have no idea what to expect. Which is both exciting and a bit disconcerting. All I know for sure is that I REALLY want a RED DSMC.

Unless the Canon output is 3k or better RAW, I doubt I will be interested. If its output is 2k... Why bother?

The smart thing Red is doing on the 3rd, is not a single article, blog or TV report about what ever CANON is announcing, will not included details about Red. Its almost as if Canon's marketing machine is sponsoring Red's announcement to the Press and End Users.

I just spent 10 minutes preparing a guess... and then deleted it.

All I can say in the last minute prep. Make it a PACKAGE deal for a SHOOTABLE config.

8X Fixed Zoom w/SSD Module
1- Redmote
1- Side Handle
1 - 64GB Card
2 - Red Volts
1 - Travel Charger
1 - Scarlet Case

Then add Canon 400% mark up... (jk Kalani, relax!)

I'm betting that 3 of a kind beats 2 pair. :-)

If I wanted to speculate... why not 9K at 200fps for $2K? Easy, right?

Everyone needs to get real here... or Nov. 3rd will not be fun. And it should be.

Jim
3k 96fps at 12k (ready to shoot) sounds about right. I dont care what Canon has to offer anymore. Can I whine to Canon's CEO on an internet forum about a 20k camera I bought and expect him to answer? Living in Egypt you get used to support not answering your Emails, buying brand name products at your own risk.. You guys changed that for me.
Whatever happens, no matter how big RED becomes please stay the same. It's why we love you. We like the camera but we love the family.

This'll probably sound like an overreaction to many, but I'd personally go Steve Jobs on all that speculation's ass and lock all the threads that do so. It's gradually becoming a buzzkill to Thursday's event and could even be damaging for Red since lurking media have the potential of misenterpreting speculative tidbits (like the media often do). My two cents.

Whether you undershoot or overshoot expectations... where we end up will either blow you away or disappoint.

We'll take our chances.

Why do you need to talk about the camera with the owner of the company? They do what they want anyways. Just like RED does what they want and has gone a different way with Scarlet than they have been said earlier and what most people wanted. I've owned many cameras from different manufacturers and I've never had a need to talk directly with the manufacturer.

If you buy Canon you have local support and everything that the camera uses like accesories can be bought from any store basicly. If you buy RED and it gets broken you will have to send it to USA for repairs and it takes a lot more time for you to get back to shooting. Also don't forget that the RED stuff is regulary in back order. So if you need something for your camera you might have to wait for months to get it. This is risk you have to take when you shoot with RED without huge budget. If you have 30 cameras like Peter Jackson then it's not a big problem when one gets broken. Also I'm sure guys like Peter doesn't need to wait in back order. It's totally different for smaller productions.

Canon is a great company and I'm quite sure that whatever they offer will be a terrific buy. And as soon as you buy, they will offer another one in 6 months that you will want to buy again... and again.

it's on the wall... in red... 3 of a kind (EPIC BODIES)... All upgradeable... All Pro... My guess is with the mounts selling as good as they are, RED has scrapped the fixed lens, and are now focusing on the sensor and different configurations of modular tech... AGAIN ... you get what you pay for...

It's a great time to be working in this business. Great new tools and (finally) some solid competition. Just the way I like it!

Now back to get some art made before Thursday...
