  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The Hobbit...

Right on, thanks for keeping the list. I will definitely see this film at least twice from the start. Have to check out this 48fps business.

3 more weeks and counting...

The theatre list has been updated quite a bit so the list I posted above is no longer valid. I just sent in some theatres myself.

Here is the current list.

Hobbit Theaters

Hobbit Theaters

Do try to go to these theaters.

Imax says these are the ones that will exhibit in HFR Imax 3D.

The alternative if you're close is AMC Lowes Lincolin Square in NYC shown only in Imax 3D but the biggest Imax screen going.

There might be some inaccuracies in the list so best to call the theater to confirm.

Wow, the two list are much different. The problem with calling a theater is that you get a high school student that believes the 48 FPS version is the 3d version. Guess it's not so bad to see the film too many times.

Looks like it's LA for me opening night. Any RU gather at a specific theater on the 14th?

Yeah, it looks like you have some traveling to do. Your viewing of "The Hobbit" will be a long trek, similar to Frodo and Sams. :)

The 48FPS 3D IS the only 3D version of the film being shown at every location with HFR3D installed, so if you call a location that has HFR3D upgrades, that's exactly what you will be told.

Sure about this? There are no 24fps 3d versions?

Ha ha, I guess I'll see it in one of the countries I'll end up taking Mr. Monochrome to shoot some Fashion Films... Or I can still head out to NZ... ;)

No, There are 3D 24p versions, but if the theater has the 48p capability, then they will show only in 48p in this theater, there wont be one room with 48 and the other with only 24p...
That's what I understood.

False. Just looking at the two Regals and two AMCs that are playing HFR3D, they also have IMAX 3D and "standard 3D" show times.

As far as we know and until we are told otherwise, there is a 24fps version for 3D but any theatre equipped with HFR3D is not going to show that non-HFR version because there is no emphasis on HFR in the ticket sales or listings. Every theatre I've looked at that is confirmed as HFR3D is only showing the film in 3D on 1-2 screens (both HFR3D) and sadvertising it as any other 3D movie with no mention of HFR and many if not all of the theatres with digital IMAX 3D setups are being upgraded to HFR3D on a rush schedule from what I've read because they want to go as wide as possible for the holiday movie season and the second film. The list of theatres showing the film in HFR3D gets significantly bigger every time they update it and I suspect it will be a pretty wide and comprehensive roll-out by the time the movie is released, which is a big change from the "handful of theatres" that WB and PJ originally promised.

Well, I checked the local Regal and AMC theatres for the Hobbit release dates and it looks like they are in fact doing that, but they were first in line for upgrades, so I guess they are doing it differently than the other chains I've looked at.

OMG!! THATS REALLY EPIC....OR 30 OF THEM!! LOL

I was never a big fan of the LOTR films but I will make it a point to watch The Hobbit because this film is really breaking new grounds in so many areas. The music in 12:16 gives me the chills every time I hear it.

I SECOND THAT!!!!!
