  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The Hobbit...

that is the great thing about redray! We can watch at home these films in the way they were meant to be experienced.

Sadly, it will most likely mean that for me I'll have to fly out in some other country to see the Hobbits in 3D @48fps... So wished RED's REDRAY/Projector combo was already out and in my humble place to enjoy it full glory... ;)

He he, agree, on the flight video, pretty cool... ;)

Is there no 4K love in italy at the moment?

None, that I have found, but guess what? As soon as the RED Laser 4k Projectors + RED Rays ship, Italy will get a nice surprise... ;)

Oh man, you tease - I know about one big thing you were planning with these... especially with a lot of these ;) but I'm not entirely sure you mean the same thing right now. :)

3D IS and will be 2k only, 24fps and HFR.

There is no standard in DCI/DCP for 4k 3D, and there is no hardware to support it.

Tickets go on sale tomorrow at 11 AM. I don't know if that's East Coast time or West Coast.

Well in that case I'm gonna pass 3D this time. I like 4K 2D way more, lol.

So how and why is peter doing 3d at 48fps? At what point are they throwing all those extra frames out the window during post if the dcp doesnt support it? Mixing 3d with 4k 48fps seemed like a very calculated choice so there must be a delivery experience that they targeted.

Thrilled to learn that the UCI cinema here in Bochum where I live will be showing the Hobbit in HFR, so I will be able to form my own opinion about this new look instead of having to listen to hearsay accounts. Very cool!

anywhere in india gonna have hfr 3d projection???

I've seen a lot of the Hobbit in 2D, 3D and 48fps 3D and I'm still a big fan of regular old 2D 24fps. The 48fps is a look for sure but it just looks too much like video to me. Still the movie is awesome and if you liked the LOTR then you will love The Hobbit.

Thanks for posting that. Surprisingly, the only theater that projects in this manner is a pretty small and unassuming theatre in my home town.
