  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The Great Gatsby

I really, really loved the Great Gatsby. I mean, come on, it's a classic.

I think every tool has it's place. While I'm not a big fan of 3-D films I think I enjoyed it's use on Avatar. I have to say (in my opinion) shooting this particular story in 3-D is just fucking stupid and utterly insensitive to the material.

Im with you on this one... but Im also with Jim 100% in that love em or hate. LEO is one of the best actors on the planet and I definitely look forward to this tortured role.

But does anyone else think its a tad tacky to remake this Classic film before Redford is dead?, well for at least a week?

Id love to see this in Glorious 4K. I remember the original like yesterday. Remember it being incredibly shot... and utterly shocked my dad took me to this at age 12.
But it was Dad who was first obsessed with the cinema.

Same era as the Great Waldo Pepper - now THAT FILM I would love to see in GLORIOUS 4K EPIC 3D - Bi Planes and Wing Walking!

You know I haven't heard much about Dam busters ?! I was particularly interested in this because my Dad lived next door to Sir Barnes Neville Wallis

+2 on the Leo fan club come to think of it I dont think i've ever seen him in a bad movie

Really?

Jim

Yeah, Im in that rare crowd on this one in that I thought Leo was great, the whole cast was, but that movie just felt wrong taking a real life tragedy and adding the Diamond and Romeo and Juliet on a boat sub story, kind of ruined it for me big time.. Well that and the over played Celine Dion soundtrack.

The difference in classes was compelling, the supporting cast and techical achievements, costumes were top notch. BILL PAXTON bugged

Im not that picky, I grew up on Terminator and Aliens.. the Abyss is by far my Fave Cameron film.. but this one.. not so much. Im mean who know a 3 hour movie where everyone knows the ending would be the highest grossing movie ever?

But then again "better off dead" is one of my top 5 movies ever.

You are in the minority. Good for you.

I dont how good that is, everyone I know loved that movie... I just thought with real life people like Astor and others who died, and many in 3rd class... they touched on those bits and they were my favorite part... I just felt the fictional love story belonged in another movie ... thats my context.

I think true events should be told as accurately as possible... but its useless arguing this, Im way way in the minority and dont want to sound like a hater.

but i know Im not in the minority when I say Paxton rocked in Aliens... and Weird Science... so forgive me if its kind of hard to take that dude seriously in this film after the way he went out in Aliens.. :)

I was quite impacted by Titanic, mostly because it was really based around a real life tragedy. I can't imagine the horror of being in that position for real. I think Paxton's character was annoying too... but he was supposed to be. All he cared about was getting his hands on the necklace. He didn't give a rip about the human cost. If nothing else, the scene at the end of the old couple hugging each other on their bed as the water came crashing in just cut me in half.

I have liked Leo since 'What's Eating Gilbert Grape'. He could have left 'The Beach' alone but he owned 'Inception'. I'm hoping Baz takes a good hard look at Epic for this one. I'll be keeping an eye out for the RED jet at Sydney airport.

The number of 3D films that have been released that were directed by Academy Award winning and/or critically acclaimed directors is a very short list at the moment.

Everyone is judging the creative impact of 3D on a narrative based on genre and action offerings and one tent-pole film by Cameron.

When 3D films directed by guys like Baz and Scorsese - with great scripts and great actors - get out into the theaters - lots of "3D haters" are going to shut up quick.

I've had the good fortune to work with Baz. He has more creativity in his pinky than many directors have in their entire career. Leo can work with any director in the business he wants - he's pretty good at choosing to work with the ones who can do great things.

I have ZERO doubt The Great Gatsby will be nothing short of incredible.

I appreciate the respect on this board.

I very much look forward to any film with Leo. One of my personal favorites is Blood Diamond.

Jim, I think it's amazing what you and RED have done for classic and 3D movie making. What I am really looking forward to is the larger scale Epics like the 645 and the 617. I love that the 645 is only a few millimeters short of IMAX and I gladly paid twice to see The Dark Knight in IMAX. I truly hope Mr. Nolan gets to shoot the sequel entirely in IMAX and I really look forward to the day when I can shoot features with that kind of "epic" visual quality.

Epic or not, I have every confidence in Baz and in Leo and I'm sure the movie will be great.

Thanks everyone for being so polite to a guy who hasn't done anything you have heard of.... yet :-)

Got a lot of respect for Leo. Would prefer he stay away from Scorsese, Cameron and Spielberg (my three least favourite storytellers) and make some truly interesting cinema. He has a hell of a lot of talent, and he's still got a long way career ahead of him.

Great Gatsby is a grand story, and Baz is definitely a perfect choice to make it, IMO.
