So I have a quick story for y'all ( picked up a little southern accent while working in texas for 3 months last year...ha ha ha). anyway I was at the JMR Factory in Northridge last week picking up a new 5 PCIE extender Chassis ( more on that later) and i noticed how busy it was in their factory. I thought to myself, how can this company be so busy building raids and expander chassis and other servers for the post industry, certainly there has to be a limit to the number of boxes hollywood and beyond buys...so i asked what it was they were all so busy doing.....and the answer was...

if you look right under the satellite dish you will see several grey boxes...those are used to process all of the telemetry data and process all of the video being shot, in realtime and then transmitted in real time, in greater than HD back to the pilot and others...all of this is done with technology built right there in the valley by JMR...crazy stuff! so the post business that they do, although very challenging itself, is a little less demanding than what is needed for making the drones work.
this got me thinking that i had made a good decision a couple of years ago buying two silverstors and then also buying the expansion chassis. i even saw a whole bunch of big manufacturers raids being built there as private label merchandise.
so my current system has 5 red rockets in this expansion chassis and the other port of the two port PCIE card is my 3 port expansion chassis that also has 10 drives which i have raided in a RAID 5 raid configuration and then another one of those silverstors daisy chained off of the expansion port of the silverstor. so there are 13 PCI E 8X SLOTS altogether on the system with 3 of those taken up by the two raid controller cards atto 608's and one of the pcie expansion cards, leaving 10 slots open for rockets and other 8x cards and a couple of 4x for smaller things like the BM ultrascopes and sonnet tempo estata cards.
the greatest part of having those two silverstors is after i bring in a red mags worth of data or several in fact when doing multicam or mutlicam 3d, i can then move that data immediately to the other silverstor at 60 gigs per minute ( it is actually breathtaking to watch data move that fast), even better is the fact that i can also move that same data albeit at a little less than a 1/4 of that speed to external estata raids like the g-technology GRAIDS and start my transcodes all simultaneously without a loss of speed all the way around.
if you are interested in being able to handle at least ten cameras worth of data running non-stop, like we recently did on a justin bieber feature a few weeks ago, and you are not scared to pay for defense department quality, then i strongly suggest you check out JMR. Now i am not getting any special treatment or merchandise for writing about this, i pay card rate just like anyone else., i am just so happy with the products and customer service, that i had to share my experiences with you guys and the few girls that are here.
ok, the next time you hear a story about the drones making a strike, you can think...i know a guy who has that technology in his on-set cart....ha ha ha
enjoy...
