  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The future...

You had me at Epic...

You had me at Epic...

Imaginary checklist at RED Future projects meeting... hmmm...

1) Physically small cameras that can show off the the best optics on the planet, check. (While I'm sure the next one will be even more mind blowing the Epic is already well beyond the performance envelope of current post production and exhibition standards as realized in real world use.)

2) Complete 4K ecosystem for image manipulation... in progress. (Don't get me wrong, this is not a slam - getting the cameras farther down the development path had to come first (GIGO). Leaving the bulk of this to third parties was a rational choice, but if you have the bandwidth they could use a push.)

3) High resolution / high fidelity display devices. (Available but silly expensive and in the case of the big projectors unwieldy. I understand it may be a while before we see 12bit, wide gamut, 10 stop plus contrast ratio, 4K displays for under $10K. That said, a 2500 lumen 3840 by 2160 DLP projector with decent optics for under $20K would be huge and 50" 4K plasma for under $5K would rock hard.)

Cheers - #!9

So close...yet so far away, I am. That's how I feel about the RED program. :p

Glad to hear things are still going swell on your front, gang...

Joseph, if you only knew what was going on behind that closed door you hung outside of today.. heh heh heh.

Would love to be a fly on a wall in there...

Any renders from that meeting you could share, Jarred? LOL

Limited Edition Scalet Joseph, with the trademark checkered pattern?

But seriously, good to hear that there's still nothing but positivity from the RED Team.
For now we wait, plot, conspire and plan. :)

The future is right around the corner!

Others didn't want to listen and prepare for the future. RED, it's your turn now.

I hope that, before the long or medium term future, the immediate future means Epic-S going on sale... I'm a "Scarleteer", an F3 price range indie and since 2009 have been waiting for the future! Yes, I'm poor, I can't afford an M or an X! But I really want in on the revolution d#mn it! :)

Anyway, great for Red, and truly admire what you're doing with the kids in Red Camp. If I had that during my childhood, I would certainly be shooting a lot better at my age!

Looking to the distant future is always fun, but never more so than when you're shaping it.

I'd like to think that there's some kind of global-latitude sensor possible, where you choose aperture only to affect depth of field and the sensor records light levels way above and below what the eye can see, leaving the creative decision of how to expose for the edit suite. RAW to the next level. It's possible to far exceed human capabilities with sensors for heat, sound, pressure etc, so why not light? ;)

Coming to the show late but this has become a site I check every morning now.

Looking forward to Scarlet and the compatibility with Epic accessories.

Thank you, Jim.

Jim, Jarred, Graeme, et. al.:

It must be an amazing feeling to know that you and your team have changed. . . and will continue to change. . . a entire, and very well-established. . . industry. Seldom has anything like this happened before in history.

I'm just glad to be able to come along for the ride.

Stephen
