But, at this time, LightWorks will be the only true cross-platform solution !

Is this a joke or what..... Have you seen the features???

what if compositing would be implemented???

Only questions that rises to me is; this might be eventually be the way it's all making progress right now, large community helping eachother to work on such quality products, but how long will these last and what's the future support, what will happen with companies that really do care about us and are making huge investments in writing the tools we've asked for,

on the other way , it might be good there's coming some wake up call , because myself , I'm still thinking all other companies good have even done much better. THey were in business for all these years and still all these software still lacks tons of features we could use on a daily basis. This is exactly what ruins my time configuring out systems that won't last to long and getting sick off minority differences between all off them with none off them really sticking out; like FCP not being clear (while they had the advantage with Red in the first time...) with us, they implemented Red , but then suddenly everything slowed down..... Avid was doing a little nap, which they seem to have changed by now....and premiere did the very best they could imho, but they should already have made the perfect combo for editing and finishing by now.....

CHoosing a descent workflow is what keeps me up all night last weeks , because I'm urgently looking for descent sollutions. Don't want to change platforms every year....

Still not sure what this will do to the business.... even when everyone says , it's the talent , not the tool , that's important.

anyway , looking forward to it. at least.

I have particularly fond memories of cutting on Lightworks. It's still the best NLE in my opinion. I know a number of editors who despite earning their living on Avid and FCP, would cut on Lightworks if they have their druthers.

If this can, indeed, go OS agnostic and accept BMD and AJA hardware I'd be very, very interested.

Something crossed my mind. Lightworks is British, right? So is Storm. What if they got together? I wonder ...

"amazingly quick and easy to use "

In the interview from David Battistella, Chris Gill, editor, is agree with you and said:

"I've always liked that simplicity of it, as well. Nothing ever gets in the way of Lightworks, you edit as your brain is thinking, which is fantastic to have that instant access to your editing knowledge. It's amazingly quick and easy to use -- and I know people say it's a bit quirky, but once you get to know it, the more you realize it's just a direct route of getting something from your head onto the screen in a very simple, organic, speedy way."

I agree Lightworks was a truly great cutting tool. Haven't used anything since that matched it's speed and intuitiveness.

If I remember correctly, Lightworks was sold to Tektronix who are Canadian, so it's long since left our shores.

Hummmm.... Looking forward to it

From the link....

Avid DNxHD*, Apple ProRes*, RED*, AVC-Intra*, AVCHD*, XDCAM HD*, XDCAM EX*

*Options available through the Lightworks Store
**SDI Output requires optional I/O hardware

Does the asterisk next to these codecs mean it's an extra cost option, if so, how much?

Textronix, at the time, was an American Company, based out of Beverton, OR, if I remember correctly. They were always gold standard in measuring equipment. For the longest time their scopes were pretty much standard equipment in post houses. Not sure about who owns the company now.

Video I/O Support

Video I/O Support

The guys at Editshare confirmed today that they are indeed working with BMD and AJA and hope for support early in the new year!

Yeah, I think some specialised codec support might be a cost upgrade but, just to be clear here, if this cost MORE than Avid or FCP, I would call it great value. It's a fabulous editor. Perhaps not if you're building multi-layered corporate jizz with flying boxes and text everywhere echoing the VO ... (cracks neck) but for drama, music clips - jobs where the cut actually matters - this is not just free, it's the best tool.

the big question is what is the lightworks store? as RED support is only availble through this store..
will they charge users for using these formats, (the ones with astrix)?
