My feature will be direct to BD 1920 x 1080.

Which chip is better the Mysterium in Red One or the Mysterium-X in S35 Scarlet?

For my application i.e. direct to BD at 1920 x 1080 is there any advantage to either camera?

Should I use a Red One with Mysterium or a S35 Scarlet with Mysterium-X?

everything else is the same ... i.e the same RPP's used on either camera etc.

The reason I'm asking is this ... should I use a Red One now ... or wait for S35 Scarlet with Mysterium-X?

Will there be a noticeable difference between the two systems if the final product is direct to BD 1920 x 1080?

(this feature is planned for the summer of 2010 so time/availability is not a factor ... I hope)

The Mysterium is better due to the fact it is actually available! But generally the Mysterium-X sensor is suppose to add a stop of latitude and will most likely have a better read-write rate that improves shutter artifacts dramatically, this is where any noticable difference will occur.

Since you're shooting in Summer 2010 you might as well wait for the Scarlet, you never know, by then you will hopefully be able to pick up the FF35 scarlet with even better DR and shutter with the Monstro sensor.

No one can necessarily promise anything with cameras that don't yet exist but with higher bitrates, higher resolution, and better dynamic range, plus it being a second-generation sensor, I think it's safe to assume that S35 Scarlet or Epic image quality will be superior to Red One.

Not to the average viewer. And no one knows yet if delivery of the cameras will meet the possibly high demand. Red One owners get first crack at Epic and Scarlet and if you don't have a high serial number you could be waiting.

If I were in your situation I would use a Red One now.

you didn't mention it as an option but don't forget about the mysterium-x sensor upgrade for the red one. it will give you that extra stop, should be released before the scarlet and is priced under $5k.
