  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The Dark Knight

WB has an Imax screen?

I'm really looking forward to this picture.

I wish other studios would learn from this whole experience. When you want to start or revive a franchise, hire a GREAT DIRECTOR. Period.

When I hear news about the Terminator franchise being turned over to the likes "McG", it makes me scratch my head and wonder how retarded these execs actually are?

I'm willing to give it a shot. Charlies Angels 1 & 2 were both pretty horrible but We Are Marshall was surprisingly mature.

I hope McG does not post or lurk here. :)

I'm not trying to single him out or diss him personally. I'm just saying that he is not a serious, Oscar-caliber director like Nolan.

You want to make Terminator 4 awesome? Give it to Aronofsky. Give it to PTA. Give it to Tarantino. Give it to a serious director with serious talent. That's how WB brought back Batman.

It was a screening for WB people at the Universal Imax theatre.

I'm willing to give him a chance. Those directors you mentioned are all excellent screenwriters and actor's directors but not necessarily the top action directors you'd want for major action-heavy series like Terminator.

McG is solid at action and he's hired some great actors for T4, so I'm at least willing to give it a look. I'd totally agree that Nolan is the bomb in writing, acting and action directing- like James Cameron, Ridley Scott, etc- but those are rare guys indeed.

Yeah but you could have said the same thing about Nolan before they handed him Batman. He was best known at that time for Memento.

Sometimes for action films, what you really need is a serious dramatic director. Like Irvin Kershner directing The Empire Strikes Back.

Tarantino? Terminator? WTF? Did you really just suggest that? :)

It would definitely be interesting, that's for sure. I'd line up to see that combination, just because...

Jonathan Mostow did an okay job on T3. Some of the story wasn't consistent with the previous 2 Cameron did, but that's more or less the writers that were responsible for that.

As far as directing T4, maybe someone like Zack Snyder or Stephen Sommers (although I did think he could've done a better job on Van Helsing), someone who understands action and CGI, but also good at telling a story in general.

The Dark Knight looks incredible. Before Nolan did Batman Begins, I really didn't think of him as that kind of a director. I know a lot of directors don't enjoy being "typecasted" just like actors don't, but still...I just didn't think of him in that way. However, I do now.

Nolan can't direct a good fight scene...Still didn't stop me from getting my ticket for the midnight showing.

Nolan can't direct a good fight scene.

Heh, the most common complaint I've heard about Batman Begins is how fast the fight scenes are cut, to the point where it's hard to decipher what's going on. A lot of times, when they cut to a new shot, it's too tight/close-up to really see well. They also use a lot of sound effects to substitute for what the visuals imply.

Same, I'm also gonna see it, regardless.

I don't think Chris Nolan can direct action at all.

Even a quick moment like when the glass case was being smashed in THE PRESTIGE I was totally confused as to what was going on.

Most of the action in The Dark Knight is shown in wide, clear, long takes. Except a few moments of one to one fighting, which get a little muddy... I guess it's a symptom of having a dude dressed like a bat getting in a fist fight in a brightly lit room. Could easily get silly...!

Saw it last night at a WB screening (in Imax)

Wow.

It's the best comic book movie ever made.

To put your statement into context I can relate to...what did you think of batman begins?

Most tend to think it was a great film. I personally never got the appeal. I thought it was a dreary, humorless, clunky affair. The best chemistry was between Morgan Freeman & Michael Caine. Was I the only one that recalled Snidely Whiplash as the villain? He invades the mansion, starts a fire, a wooden beam falls on & immobilizes our hero, culminating in a face off on a train? Our mustachioed villain needed only to tie our heroine to the tracks of said train... Jeez Louise. Was that really the best available????

Please tell me that this new batman improves upon the "fun" factor. Fun as in a degree of awareness of the fact that this is a guy in a rubber suit with eyeliner putting on a fake voice (as part of his disguise). They can really have a lot of fun with that!
