Hi!

my film is going to be an anamorphic joint. i already did a short in anamorphic, cropped for a direct print in cinevator in 35mm. Now as im doing a feature film and shooting with a Red, i was thinking about going REAL anamorphic. I know its not cheap to have a new full set of anamorphic lenses, so i was thinking about buying those adaptors that squeeze in the image, that will make it cheaper but i still don`t know exactly the limitations of it.

so im writing here cause i need a suggestion from people of this forum...

Best,

Daniel

I cringe every time I see the phrase "best and cheapest" in a post...

Trouble with anamorphic adaptors for 35mm lenses -- the front ones are huge and are not particularly sharp, and the rear ones should be attached by a lens tech to make sure the back-focus is correct, and ultimately don't create any anamorphic lens artifacts that make the format attractive.

You'd be better-off shooting on spherical lenses and cropped to 2.40 if you can't use real anamorphic lenses.

Hi Daniel,

I don't think you'll get good results with any kind of front adapter attachment. It's worth looking into the Round Front Lomo's as an inexpensive anamorphic set, people have done great work on these with the Red.

Other than the Lomo's, there's some great options depending on where you are located, but it won't be cheap.

Save your money. Rent a set of Hawks or Lomos if you need something... RED has their own anamorphics in the works. Most adapters are a waste of time as they have too many compromises.
