I had a great time working with fellow reduser Richard Darge "rgdfilmsRED" who initially posted on reduser the barter deal inquiry. It goes to show we have some great people in this reduser community.

Richard will have more details regarding the indie short film project we worked on. I brought #102 and I just jumped in there..cam op'd "B" cam.

Some BTS shots below.

Yo Richard, spoil us with some Red Frame grabs! =)

You look real good in your B-cam picture Tonanci. Did you ever compete in any of those beauty contests you now do promo's for. I bet you would have done really well.

Looks like a lot of fun. Glad everything is going so well for you.

cheers

Tonaci & Evin, thanks for coming out to help! Kip (#99), thank you for making yourself available & open as well. You guys rock

That lens is MASSIVE !!

I'll see if I can post some stills later this weekend. I have 2 computers running on overtime right now. We shot roughly 800GB over 3 days! All of that material is being downrezzed to Pro-Res & DV-25 files.

Wow - how many hours is that? I guess with 2 cameras it's easy to get there. Red Drive is your friend.

Please document your workflow with render times if you get the chance. Those are monster lenses though. I don't think my labrador is that big.

Good to see you guys getting out there and having fun!

At 2.2GB/minute.... 6 hours of footage. Two cams. B-Cam likely less than A... 4-A Cam 2-B Cam? About 2 hours a day from A-Cam. Not too bad. You can certainly crank it out!

Wow! Cool pics! Point out whom is whom.

Hey Shawn

I am in the picture at the top, 3rd picture down is Ed Gutentag, DoP, in the peach shirt/goatee - 2 guys over in the gray shirt is director Jim Vickers.
4th picture down is Tonaci behind #102 & the 12:1 Optimo.

Data is still crunching. Compressor doesn't like batch renders with 50+ files.

I would love if the camera could create proxies in their regular folders but that there was an option to send all the P, M, H, F quality QT proxies to a single folder created on the CF card or the Red-Raid. This would speed up the tedious process of clicking every High quality QT proxy and dragging them into Compressor. I don't know if this can be done but it would make 'dailies' compression a lot easier.

I can't post frame grabs as the project isn't mine. I will post some BTS shots later.

Another barter deal, of another sort

Another barter deal, of another sort

You know, this aspect of the Red experience bears mentioning. I had a music video last month, and then had a just a shot or two that was written that had to happen on a different day.

Rick came out and helped on that second day, when I needed it the most. I won't get into his compensation (it wasn't enough), but most of all it was just cool to have an experience where some people excited about the possibilities of some new gear got together and had some fun using it. On a real, commissioned job, no less. Doesn't happen often enough in Los Angeles, since unfortunately all to often we have to watch out for our own selves (and put food on the table, etc etc).

I'll be able to post that video soon, but in the meantime here's a mean shot Rick operated for me from that day:

Nate, can't wait to see the video, hope you can post it here when you're done..

I can't post frame grabs from this 3-day shoot just yet, maybe in the future. The material looks awesome though and it should make for a solid short film.

Here are some more BTS pictures shot with my iphone and Tonaci's Canon Rebel.

I love this shot (I dig all of them, but)
I will never tire of BTS shots... Thanks Dude.

Thanks Daren.. its this new gel I'm using.. I'll hook you up next time you are down here.

That was a fun day, the first time I've ever had to pull focus on a 12:1 Optimo.
I don't envy all you 1st ACs.

Give a try at the panavision 3:1 or hubble as it is also called. Many a focus puller also refers to it as "The Pink Slip".
