I firmly believe in the agony and ecstasy of taking risks, especially creative ones. Nothing makes you feel more alive, and is more terrifying, than making a bold creative choice, especially on paid jobs.

However I have even more admiration for those who take risks on side projects and personal pieces. When you're accountable only to yourself, I feel like the agony and ecstasy get MAGNIFIED. Theres no one to shield you from your deepest whims, no one to shoulder the risk and the terror, and as a result I find all too often my favorite creatives shy away from totally letting loose. It’s too vulnerable, exposing - me included.

This thread then is a celebration of those who have shed the shackles of shame and worry, and proudly showcase intimate deeply creative pieces. There is a confident tone in all this work, an ownership of the how, and a carefreeness that suggests these artist know what they are doing, and let it flow naturally. They don’t get in their own way.

I hope you are all as inspired by this work as I am. Please feel free to add to this thread in an way you like - the more the community shares, the more we can all bask in the collective glow of these breathtaking experiments. Kudos to all of you following your inner voice and making bold, surprising choices. We are listening.

Heres an early list of some of my fave experiments over past year, from fellow redusers.

I just shot this a couple months ago.

This may be my favorite thread of all time....

Timur this piece is amazing! Exactly what I'm talking about. We stretch our brains when we step out of our comfort zone. So important to try new things like this. BEAUTIFUL PIECE. Thanks so much for sharing and adding to list!

Macro work like this is so inspiring. Such a nice reminder we can create entire new worlds and galaxies if we peer close enough...

Great idea to put this together. Thanks.

Some inspiring, recent experimental work. Love the look of Dragon Monochrome in John's piece, and his great use of perspective. Love the Lomos and Patrick's superb ability to draw emotion out of all his frames. Love the simplicity and drama of being trapped in an elevator for a short film.
