I read the following on another Recon Post before it was locked:
=========
"One more time: Panasonic, Canon, et al dominate the market for a very good reason and they will for many years to come. If you pay attention they are developing the future slowly but surely. The VDSLRs are out there, cheap and very close to perfection. RAW capture? watch for it in due time. The options are gonna be many and for our benefit."
=========
Don't get me wrong, I love my Canon EOS 5D (MkI) and the excellent service of their New Jersey service center. But my opinion is that the speed of progress and price of Pan-Can-Son-JVC high-end video products have been based solely on business decisions to manage and extract maximum profit from a vertically segmented market, rather than what technology has made possible or in the best interests of their customers.
Red has given me something that these companies would never allow a pro-sumer like me: Hope. Hope that someday soon I'll be able to produce unapologetic, no regrets professional (technical) quality video that will represent my (and my participants and audience) vision, passion, and talents. The waiting has been excruciating, but enough has been announced that convinces me the wait will be more than compensated for in quality and features.
This Thanksgiving, I'm thankful that Red is busily working to make a dreamed-of part of my future a reality.
