Just a thanks to the folks at Duclos for the 11-16 PL mount lens. We just got back from shooting in India for a two-hour PBS documentary special and we used the lens extensively on our MX Red One. It was not only a great camera for Steadicam and Jimmy-jib use, but saved the day for us in small, dark interiors. A lot of what we were shooting was architecture (including the Taj Mahal) and the ability of that lens to present an extraordinarily wide field of view with minimal distortion really paid off for us, particularly on the moving camera. The mechanics are great as well.
After the extremely helpful Indian government restricted our shooting to the same small platform in front of the Taj Mahal that provides the single post-card shot that everybody uses (and for a modest shooting fee of only $3,000) we finished with the Red One and mounted the Duclos lens on a PL converted Canon T-2 to continue shooting closer to the monument, artfully disguised as American tourists.
Of course, the lens performed beautifully (though I would have to say that ergonomically, the Canon T-2 really sucks as a hand-held motion picture camera). It especially sucks when you consider that we had a Jimmy jib and a Steadicam gathering dust back in the truck. Special thanks again to the government of India…
The Duclos folks also were able to rush delivery for us in time for our departure and were supportive in every way.
Great lens, great support. Thanks to the entire family.
