  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Thanks to 300...

I also wanna' thank those guys for helping out. Twitter and Scarletuser made it worth while waking up in the middle of the night with the flu.

And while I'm at it. I never thought actually buying the red product would make such a huge different. But it really does. No matter if it's a way of thinking or actually true, I now - more then ever - feel like I'm part of the Red family. I was very pleasently surpriced with the new Scarlet and luckily for me it was still within my reach. A lot of people often thank Jim for things I often find them too minor to actually post about it because it quckly loses it's meaning, but I must say at this point I really and honestly feel like thanking not just Jim, Jarred, Ted, Graeme but all of the Red personnel for making this product available and possible. Thank you from my heart - I look much forward to receiving and playing with my Scarlet-X!

Yeah, was following the fxguide twitter from france, then i called the squad, then they emailed me i can order
then at 4am France time, i ordered 2 scarlet !

it was crazy

What an incredible day... The information coming from Tonaci was invaluable. I cannot thank him and Mark L. Pederson enough for getting the word out. I placed my orders ASAP by calling RED. The Bomb Squad f'n killed it... Brent and Marco ROCK!

Scarletuser also saved the day... The bastards didn't see that one coming did they! So I ran over an signed in for the first time since 2008! ;)

WHAT??

As soon as I found red.com was basically unusable I called the Bomb Squad (as suggested by PatC of Offhollywood)... and was told they were NOT taking orders by phone, I had to order through the RED Store - or else they would take my number and call me back in a couple of days. So I spent an hour wrestling with red.com getting my order in... and presumably went waaaaay back in the line from the people whose Bomb Squad reps DID take the order by phone. Not fair! That's not playing the game.

Same here. Got on the phone and email to my rep but got told to persist with online ordering. Online took us forever to get an order all the way through. Imagine this has made a massive difference to where we are sitting.
Sucks, when you hear other reps look after their customers.

A couple of hours in bed with my iPad and Twitter updates was good. Impossible to sleep with all this exitement evolving all night ;-)

Congratulation on the release, good choice to abandon the 2/3 sensor. We will certainly order a couple of Epic little sister's!

Have a good weekend people :-)

Thanks to Mike Seymoure and Tonaci for there twittering, this was first class information.

+1

Scarlet is a milestone in film history, well done RED team, you blew me away. I've had my doubts leading up to the event, had doubts about Canon too, they also blew me away but for different reasons, 20,000 of them to be specific, I don't know what they were thinking but you sure as hell showed them the door lol.

I thought you would be missing the owner operator crowd but I think most will have their sights firmly set on a Scarlet now.

Thanks guys...
2 Scarlets on the way :)
Life is short.

"THIS IS SPARTA!!!" As 300 fervent RED citizen-warriors leap into action after Scarlet snap kicks a C300 into a dark hole. . .

A callout to all the twitterers: without you, we'd've been in the dark about the announcement with nothing but an empty thread to look at. Massive thanks! :)

Tonight was a night I will never forget. And I have had some pretty good moments. When I was spewing out the specs... I looked over to see who was busy on their iPhones and iPads. It was incredible. When I gave the price... everyone looked up, smiled, and then pushed the keys hard.

These are moments that one lives for...

Jim

Jim you had me at 3k and 2/3's is not enough! A HUGE thanks to Tonaci! Expectations exceeded by 100 fold!

Jim we all would have still bought a 2/3! If the camera is fully developed, release it at a later point. 2/3 redcode will still beat that hairdryer from canon.

Mike, I think you'll find you did not lose your place. I stayed on the whole time, and judging by our emails we both got through at the same time. I'm sure some people gave up too. You were also one of the first to post that the order was excepted, so I think your good!

Thanks to everyone at the event who took the time to post in alternative ways. For us who were locked out of reduser, you kept the event alive. Very alive.

+1, as well as http://twitter.com/#!/futuristfilm and, of course, Deanan and Graeme.

If it was possible, the whole sites down, following on Twitter thing just made the day (night) seem even more revolutionary. I had Endgadget, Avid and Lightworks open in tabs at the same time while I waited (in vane) for the Red sites to load.

The Canon launch just looked even more lame in comparison - huge launch, big names, seriously underwhelming and overpriced camera. Meanwhile Red are camped out in a tent, hurricane lamps swinging in the breeze, delivering the knockout blow through the agency of "The People". Can it really be a coincidence that one of the first Red lensed features was Che?

Viva la révolucion!

BTW, like many others, Scarlet-X is out of my budget but no complaints here. My goal is now set, I know how much I need and, by the time I get there, the Nikon mount will be ready for me.

Thanks for the mention Shane (futuristfilm) - although I wasn't there, I was retweeting from those that where there - goes to show that sometimes it pays to connect to people on the likes of Twitter, Facebook, etc.

:))

That's pretty much my list too, Joel.

And many thanks to Jarred for keeping it alive through Scarletuser

So let me add to this by saving thanks to everyone involved.

I also want to expand on a post I made on twitter.

We walked into the room - straight from the very $$$ canon event.
There was a group of several hundred Red customers sitting around on fold out chairs - looking at a not very animated or informative screen while trying to get a signal themselves on whatever laptop/ipad/phones they had... after watching some great show reel stuff - it became apparent that there were serious server issues. They were people rolling their eyes and just talking amongst themselves - but the atmosphere was mild, and going down, at this point no music, no flashing lights... just a dull wait.

It seems like Jim, and nearly all the senior team were off in another area either trying to post, or trying to sort out servers... and so the users sat and waited... now there was some catering but this was no expensive open bar... it was OK but not a party set up with expensive waiters etc - I am talking a table and a small queue of semi-bored people - waiting for anything to happen.

At this point Red's Scarlet launch could have gone one of two ways.
Option 1 : Management annoyed at the external server crashes - cancels the event - says sorry and tries to reschedule... standard approach - which would have been a PR nightmare, let's face it earlier at Canon there was an ARMY of PR handlers - staff, - VIP suites etc etc - nothing went wrong - it was perfect ... In Red's position - most companies would have bailed and the CEO would have been annoyed but certainly justified in cancelling the event.

Option 2: Walk out in front of the semi-disappointed mob and give a personal heartfelt honest - this is where it is - I am personally going to tell you - talk. Stand and answer questions until you can get a bunch of cameras in here for people to look and play with. Jim turned a PR nightmare into a near religious rally - and his customers loved him for it. He was transparent - and direct and turned 300 annoyed customers into 300 product evangelists. It was one of the most impressive displays by a CEO I have ever seen. Even the Mic did not work when he stepped up. But one thing did work - his singular belief in what he was doing and saying... and this honest approach just inspiring to see.
At 6:23 - it was a lame party and a bitter disappointment in the making
at 6:30 - it was the only place on the planet to be - the only room to be in if you cared about digital cinematography and thinking outside the box. It literally suddenly became the coolest empty bit of soundstage in Hollywood. One guy - no crap - not even a working Mic and 300 customers who totally walked at the door thinking this company cared about them.

I am sorry for those of you who would have liked to have been there and could not be, and who suffered that painful internet experience of nothing on refresh - but for a small band - a rare few of us...it was inspiring. I wish you could have all seen it.
