ahhahahahha!! "honestly" speaking 10 years ago folks said they "did not see the point" for 1080p!!!
same thing. all over again.
count me IN. I'll be shooting UHD all day long, I just hope it's in a gyro stabilized lipstick cam.

I honestly don't see the point.
A lot of people can't see the difference between 720p and 1080p on 100" screens. 2K 3K and 4K are right out. 8K? Really? I don't think it will sell.
I'd rather see 1080 consumer displays mature. I'd like to see true 60p display, and real 10+ bit panels in consumer devices before we move on. Also, how about 1080p OLED TV's at 50+ inches for under $2000 USD?
How about we get SD broadcast completely behind us for a good long while before we start looking at "new standards."
How about we get laptop computers that can process 4K RAW footage in realtime. Pentium 4 and G4 laptops could do that with SD footage, and look at how hard the HD transition was.
How about getting the bandwidth to deliver 1080p over the Internet at BlueRay or better quality?
Maybe it isn't pemature to start thinking about UHD, but I foresee 2K and 1080p delivery for quite some time. More than a decade in any case.
