Hi,
I'm a film student in Australia going into my final year in 2013. Over summer we're shooting our first feature in the vein of our heroes Aronosky and Nolan who shot their first features for the cost of a beat up used car.

The major difference, of course, is that we will now, thanks to Jim's generosity, be able to shoot our film on a 4K BT Red One, the same camera another of our heroes, David Fincher, shot SOCIAL NETWORK on!

We were going to shoot on the new BlackMagic Cinema camera, but with delay after delay, the "4K for $4K" deal was a jaw-dropper.

Thanks Red for giving us a very happy Christmas and we can't wait to shoot it up on Red! :yesnod::yesnod::yesnod:

This is why Jim's move made sense. Rental houses don't get it but art still outweighs commerce in my opinion. It needs to in order to make the world better. Good luck with filmmaking!

Good luck to you

For what its worth, I thought the best looking film played at the RED Film Festival "It aint over" was shot on the Red One ; )

Just beautiful to me and really stood out amongst the others in 4k projection http://vimeo.com/20249114

I too am an Aussie refugee from the Blackmagic Cinema Camera. Their bad luck with their manufacturing partner making the glass... I really feel for them, they are trying to do something amazing (and the image looks amazing) for 'minimum-wage' filmmakers, and they have huge funds sunk in that project.

We still call shooting digital video "filming." And why not? It sounds cool. In reality though, we live in an age where film is obsolete. Nostalgia aside, the phasing out of film is a good thing for independent film makers who don't have $30,000 for processing in order to screen. Thanks to the advent of recording and projection technology, film makers spend a fraction of the cost their predecessors did 20 years ago.

Creative DCP exists to serve a new wave of producers who would rather have 10 more gallons of blood, or a larger fire ball in their film, than to use their budget on expensive processing techniques. Welcome to the future of distribution. Welcome to Creative DCP.

Thanks a lot guys! Shooting Red is a dream come true :)

@ Mark: Wow, toia.com is amazing, something for us to aspire to!
@ Will: Completely agree, such a great time to be a filmmaker :)
@ Michael M: Thanks for that link! Such a beautiful film on every level.
@ Brett: Yeah I feel a bit sorry for BlackMagic too, I use Resolve and some of their other gear, and they're all first class. Although if the BMCC was freely available, I'd still go Red!
@ Provashi: Yes I'm glad I don't live in an age where you don't need 30 grand just for a 35mm print!
@ Michael A: Thanks Michael!
