Has this guy ever turned on a camera before?

Suit guy "it will be a little bit better than the 5D Mark III"

For $10K more it better be a hell of a lot better.

They're actually planning to sell it at 15k :x

Until they ship the price is undetermined. Remember the C300 went from $20K to 16 now there's talk of $12K

I sure no one on this forum will argue that ; )

As a stills guy too, I'm used to paying 6K for a top end camera. It looks like Canon are approaching the price by doubling it because they feel photojournalists have the responsibility to shoot as much stills as video now. I don't know, just guessing. As cinematographers, the price may seem wacked because they don't value the stills capabilities. Time will tell, but my view is that Canon have too many products in the game actually.

If it was between the 1DC and the c300, I'd imagine most digital cinema users would go with the 1DC (4k internal, presumably more DR, just as noise-free, FF35 1080p at 60fps, and great stills performance to boot). That's also why this thing costs so much. At $7500-8500 (which is where this camera should be priced when compared with the alternatives on the market) sales of the c300, 1DX, and c500 would slump hard since they'd be niche of a niche (and are, comparatively, not as capable).

The 1DX will be the world's best field correspondent still camera for extreme conditions like covering revolutions, Olympics and war. The 1Dc adds HD movies to that. Their intended use and target customer works for UPI, API, NYT etc and is not comparing these products to RED or Arri.

Feature movie making out of SLR products is just a sexy side act to their main function and everyday use. I own a 1D and have a 1DX on order. I will never stroke my beard to decide if I want to shoot a particular project with a DSLR or my Epic - it should be blindingly obvious which tool to use. The rest of this chatter is, in fact, Canon bashing. Canon, like Leica, Nikon, Hasselblad, Arri, Phase, Zeiss, Cooke, Sony, Apple . . . are great companies who have over the years delivered some amazing products. Talking smack about them shows a lack of historical understanding.

They should have priced it 9K$ and it would have eliminated every camera below 20K$.
