  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Tethered Recording Sneak Peak @ IBC ( and Photokina )

Very cool !
Question : Will it support MoCo modes, and frame summing ?

Will next cam have 10GigE ? ;)

Can you off load the mag through the GIG-E as well? Say we recorded to the mag and then download them off the mag to a tethered system.

Oh,

I'd really like the idea of this. Automatic offloading to DIT through Wi-Fi module or GigE after every shot recorded to RedMag. It can save a lot of time from offloading while making two copies.

The video doesn't access on my computer so I don't have a visual of what is being used. Is this hardware? Firmware? Cable? Is there a financial component?

Wonderful addition to the arsenal! Agree that the option of using the Gig-E port for post shot downloads - in addition to live recording - would be a useful feature in some scenarios. Roger, I'd assume that process would tie up the camera, so doing it between takes would only work if you were copacetic with not being able to roll the next take until the operation was completed.

I understand that data rates are limited by the Gig-E pipe/chip (125MB/s theoretical) - just wondering how it deals with random slowdowns in transit/intake? Is there a buffering strategy? Have you left some headroom (for example: max rate 105MB/s leaving a theoretical 20MB/s for slop)?

Is there any chance this data could be fed to a RedRocket-X for an on the fly decode to 2160/24P or 1080/60P RGB with under 1/10 sec latency? I realize the new broadcast module might be the more logical solution for UHD live switching applications, but am curious what's possible.

Cheers - #19

Scintillating news!

This opens a huge S door in the DSMC.

Nice.

Yeah, I guess you wouldn't be able to really read off the Redmag to send the R3D and write to it at the same time with a new shot. Maybe it can at a lower redcode. But offloading higher quality shots during standby would work for me.

Honestly, it'd be the single most reason for me to get a Redlink module right away. If that option is there, dd an offloader option to Redcine with a MD5 Checksum. Then on top of that, have a watch folder option that'll automatically create the proxies as soon as it receives a R3D through GigE or Redlink.

Then, when you change Redmags, you connect the full card to the computer running RedCine, and it'll automatically finish copying the rest of the files that it didn't have enough time to do over GigE/Redlink.

Post of the day.

This SO rocks. I do SO much studio stuff and swapping cards and offloading is getting old really fast some days. Being able to just dump R3Ds directly onto a laptop will be a HUGE timesaver for me. Never thought this would ever happen. THANKS from the bottom of my heart. Okay, I may just have wept a little there... Very manly... ;-)

What kind of cable is this Gig-E to USB ? I'm not familiar with it, I did a quick search but did not find it in Amazon
