Sorry, this is not an announcement of a new product.

A request that appears in different forms occasionally is for some sort of remote handle for use on a shoulder rig. RED is pretty busy, so I was thinking it wouldn't be too difficult for a third party to make a patch cable with appropriate plates on the ends - one end would attach to the Brain at the Side Handle mount point, and the other end would attach to a DSMC Side Handle The handle end could have some tapped holes to attach a variety of different mounting hardware. No electronics, just some well-shielded cables and machined ends with contacts.

What do people who have used the DSMC side handle think of this, ergonomically? Of course it's not ideal, but would it work for you?

Any manufacturers working on this already? If not, please feel free to take this idea and run with it.

Reasonable price to me would be around $500, but I would of course expect to be charged more ; )

Bumping this once.

Is it really such a bad idea that it merits just one response?

@Brian, I suggested tethered to make it simple and fast for a third party to design and manufacture, keep the price down, and to avoid wireless problems like latency, interference and FCC approvals.

Hey! I like the idea a lot. Looks to be something that could be done with a certain amount of effort. I think a Pogo Pin Plate with a Lemo out of it, a lemo cable, and another plate on the other side seems like a nice idea.

I think this is a wonderful idea. Even better if it incorporates hardware to allow it to be one of The Clutch handles.

I for one would be very happy to buy a tether cable that allows me to reposition the side handle. A sturdy mounting plate with it would allow me to get back to the ENG style I learned on. Old school I know...
seriously, someone, take my money. preferably Jarred approved.

+1!

Old School was good for, what? 30+ yrs? Still valid IMHO.

All the prototypes we built for this were over $500. Sorry guys, unless you want to spend $700 on this it probably isn't going to happen. A "simple" cable and yet there are alot of parts that go into it, combined with alot of labor. The only way I could bring the cost down is if someone wants to form a group buy of at least 25 members.

well that's good info to have. I don't doubt it's labor intensive.

Is there another way to do this? Dummy handle with gpio buttons? Gpio buttons that mount to any handle? Clever mount solution for redmote?
