"In early July 2023 we tested six high resolution cinema cameras for use in giant screen (IMAX) productions. This is a little look behind the scenes from one shoot at Venice Beach, CA

Cameras were: Sony Venice 2, Canon R5C, Arri Alexa 35, Red V-Raptor XL VV, Sony A1, Kinefinity MAVO Edge 8K. We shot with matching Sigma Cine Full Frame lenses."

It's still considered the industry standard so why not"

2k Alexa studio also was said to be ok for IMAX because it was the standard. But IMAX neg has a bit more "pixes" when scanned than 4.6k. Alexa35 could be the "standard" for TV or normal 2k theaters release but does not qualify for the intended (6k and more) resolution for IMAX screen.

And yet it's going to be used for exactly that. The professionals whom conducted this test thought it was a viable camera for use for an IMAX movie production, why not you? Are you saying that you are better informed than they are about producing movies oriented for IMAX viewing??

They fix a spec they dont follow. Just that comment.
If they would have said 4k+ is good enough for Imax screen it would have been their technical choice. I don't argue with that.

I think if we could take a look back at digital productions that used HD and early 4K for IMAX versus newer 8K+ projects that are going to be on IMAX from now on then we would definitely be able to see the difference between the effect of camera resolution on the IMAX film print process. 18K cameras like the Big Sky and Achtel 9x7 are already case studies for big venue filming and virtual production plate creation so a test like this for newer 4K and 8K will be interesting to see but even with the URSA 12K out there, I'm very tempted to go past 8K as it is.
