Just found this long sought after issue of "Filmmakers Newsletter" from 1974 that has one of the first and only interviews with Terrence Malick. Great article about how Malick funded and his approach to shooting "Badlands." Artcile goes into detail about how discombobulated his crew was to Malick's (even then) aversion to artificial lighting and how he actually went through two cinematographers on this picture and more than 70% of the sound was ADR.

Not sure if there's copyright issues about posting the article on REDUSER. Maybe somebody in the know can chime in. Here's the cover though.

Hey! Don't tease! I want to read it! ;)
Posting is probably an issue.
Perhaps a little sharing via a PM?
Cheers,
Harry

Ha! Whenever I see the threads about the need to "properly light" to get a cinematic look, I remember Malick. His films are nothing if not gorgeously shot. :-)

Hey All,

A moderator advised me not to post this article on their forum, so what I'll do is post possibly on my web site, Handcranked.com, or you can email me at Joe@Handcranked.com and I can email you the article as an attachment.

Joe, can you please provide a direct URL to the page on your site where we can see this? I can't get past your quicktime splash page.

Here is someone from day one. Email address sent.

Thanks,
E. :-)

Grow a pair and post it. That rag's so old their Lawyer can't type the cease and desist because he's been dead ten years... Seriously, I think you can post it for our education purposes. If the author pops up we'll pitch in and send him a dollar.

do you guys know terrence had interview on asc mag back in 90s for TTRL ? i would like to read that too

i don't think so. he hasn't done a proper interview in ages. one reporter managed to get him on the phone around the time of TTRL, but Malick barely spoke to him. Malick is incredibly shy and private.

Wow, Malick is VERY respected in this community-- that is VERY cool.

It would so much easier to share this article by downloading it through my website, but something went batty over there and even I can't get past my first-play page. I'm at lunch right and probably will not wrap till 8 or 9 tonight. First thing I need to do is get my website going and see if I can make the downloads work. If not, I've gotten nearly 70 email requests for the article. No problem. It will much easier and faster to send out the attached pages in batch numbers. I've also gotten about 20 requests through reduser PM. Without going through each PM and linking it to an email name, I have no way of knowing if someone is requesting the article both ways, and I really don't want to fuss with it that way. So if you have only sent a PM, go ahead and email me at Joe@Handcranked.com and that way I'll make sure you get the article.

Enjoy.

Just upload it to MegaUpload, Joe. Then link it.
